To summarize this up. I keep following a bunch of german speaking news sites and read from other german speaking commenters, that they have the same issues with the thinner fonts. Let me add the references lesen.net. For normal lecture like beletristic you can go with a bigger font but for technical books, that contain tables with numbers, coding specific books and mathematical formulas you rely on getting as much content on a page as possible. But with these thing lines, things end up getting complicated. I blindly updated the kindle because until this, I was quite satisfied with every update that came from amazon. My personal lessons learned here is, adding udp port blockers for future amazon updates. Manual updates only but next time I will be waiting 1-2 weeks until all issues made public. | |

Lesson #2 learned -- wait for the jailbreak. Then you could use the fonthack. |

Is it safe to update to this after I used the new jailbreak and installed hacks?

Can you go back to the previous version? I don't like this update. My favorite font is not as black as before.

Could someone please add a screenshot with the new Helvetica font? Helvetica is my favorite font, so I would like to know what has changed about it.

Here you go, I've never used Helvetica so I don't know if there's been a change. This is on the Voyage, if it matters.

I just threw a look on the screenshot and feel a bit irritated. The previous poster wanted to see the "new" helvetica font - the one that came with the recent kindle update 5.7.2. You otoh made a screenshot of an older operating system. Amazon has changed the location of the percent and page status at the bottom of opened books a couple of operating systems versions ago. Rather than having percent on the right and page on the left, it shows percent on the left and page number on the left - separated by a "-" symbol. The difference between "old" and "new" helvetica is, that Amazon has removed the boldness of the font, making it harder to read if you choose the smallest font, smallest margin and smallest linespacing. |

Shame to see the Voyage still has the two toned screen issue with top half appearing different color to bottom half. I really hope amazon fixes this issue with the voyage 2.

I have jailbroken and updated my Voyage to 5.7.2. The original fonts are darker than they were before, so I am happy. BUT.... On a PW3, it's been the other way around. The fonts were darker before the update. I don't get it. Those two devices are supposed to have the same display, so you'd think the update would have the same effect on both. Or.. it is only happening on the two specific devices I have seen and is not representative at all of how the fonts changed throught the update. It's weird, that's for sure. |
