Copy (/backup) the entire documents folder onto a PC. Once your jailbroken and have re-registered the Kindle with the same account you used before - copy the contents of the documents folder over to your Kindle again.

All books will at first register as new - but as soon as you open them the reading progression should be back to where you left the book. At least I've experienced those results.

Hi Stwor, I did the same as what you said. When open "a" via web browser on Mac, the page shows up; but other devices connected to wifi shared from ethernet on Mac will not show the jailbreak page...

What could be wrong?

Are you typing a or "a"? You just need the a no quotes.

No quotes. It seems that mac can not use /etc/hosts file when sharing internet... maybe I need some DNS server such as dnsmasq...

put the single file named: jb on the root of your kindle (AFTER you do the factory reset - otherwise it will be erased by the reset).

put the contents of the jb folder on the web-root of your server.

Change your local network routing to send requests from the kindle for the domain named the single character: 'a' (no quotes) to your local server.

Kindle Voyage (B054) successfully jailbroken! Hooray! Thank you so much to BranchDelay, NiLuJe, knc1 and everyone else who has persevered to help give us back control over our devices. It still stuns me that Amazon makes this so difficult. Yesterday, I didn't own a KV because I couldn't have bookcover screensavers or custom fonts (Georgia). Today, I paid my $$ and Amazon is all the richer for it -- and I've got both ss and font hacks working.

By the way, it might make sense to clarify in the OP or somewhere that, thanks to knc1 and Stwor having set up IP addresses to host the necessary html files, all noobs have to do is be able to redirect "a" to one of those two addresses. It's still not obvious that you can skip the webserver step (at least I don't think so) unless you read a lot of the thread (which we know everyone, unfortunately, does not do...)

You only need to go (in Mac) to Network Preferences, Advanced, DNS tab, and add ip server 46.149.222.220.

How do I do the last two steps you told me. Oh, and will be released that file that you place in the root of your kindle and just update the kindle with that file to get the jailbreak?

Thanks for that clarification, I missed this part of it, and it was causing me issues (derp!).

Working for me too (also KV B013). I don't know why but I had problems with Stwor's DNS server, so I just took a very simplistic approach. This python script will answer all DNS queries with the same address. Crude, yet effective I just stuck my macbook's IP on line 29 and then ran the script (as root). http://code.activestate.com/recipes/...ke-dns-server/

for some reason I had a lot of problems trying to get the server on my laptop connected with the Kindle, even when I had them side by side. I had a strong signal but the Kindle refused to connect most of the time. I did a webserver with the python command on port 80 and the create_ap script.

When I did both steps, the Kindle returned to the Home screen and the title bar showed the messages as expected, but when it requested to put the ;fc-cache command and I started typing it, the Kindle got disconnected and I wasn't sure if I still needed the connection at that point.

I desperately tried to reconnect because I wasn't sure if I could return back at that point but it refused, and a moment later the JB failed message showed on the title bar.

Can I safely try again later? I don't know if at that point the Kindle can still function as the JB never happened or if the device will never reboot after a restart or something like that.

Seems like I'll wait for the JB easy-mode
