An excellent near-future alien 'invasion' story, although, as the characters note, there must be some reason behind the way the aliens are doing things, as if they wanted to just wipe out humanity, that's easy. I wonder if there's a sequel.

Next up: Lightspeed, December 2015. I'm getting a bit behind on these!

You might investigate Space: 1889, Victorian-era space travel from the steampunk role-playing game. The first book is only $0.99 at Amazon: Journey to the Heart of Luna. And also at Amazon UK for £0.99.

Just finished up a few things:

Betrayal: The Crisis in the Catholic Church: The findings of the investigation that inspired the major motion picture Spotlight by the Investigative Staff of the Boston Globe and Career of Evil by Robert Galbraith (aka JK Rowling). The book by the Globe staff was not what I would call a good read, because when is a book about molestation good, but it was excellent investigative journalism.

As for the Galbraith novel, I felt it was JKR's strongest Cormoran Strike novel save for the semi-romantic bits that kept getting in the way of the story. I hated that nonsense in Harry Potter and I don't like it here.

I have now moved on to a lovely translation of Strange Weather in Tokyo by Hiromi Kawashima.

Earthweb was the last book Stiegler wrote. It doesn't appear to be available as an ebook anymore either.

I am pretty sure I had read that before but it was still good and it was long enough ago that I didn't remember much of it.

I managed to finish Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie today as well as The Loo Sanction by Trevanian as an audio book. Both were good, with Ancillary Justice being very good I think.

Next up is Brandon Sanderson's surprise novella Mistborn: Secret History that he released with Bands of Mourning last week.

After finishing the second and third IFICS book, I did indeed proceed to the second Action Figures volume. I quite like the AF stories and setting, but the formatting gets on my nerves a bit. I got the first book in EPUB as part of a bundle, but the rest are Kindle-only. After converting to EPUB, the resulting books (at least numbers two and three; I haven't checked four) have minimal navigation (Start and Midpoint), no chapter/part title styling, and the text is lumped into four chunky files. On the plus side, book two was rather well edited; I found a few typos, but only a few. Still, I'm going to have to massage books three and four into decent condition before I try reading them. Maybe I'll check out the two online short stories (both of which are post-book-2) in the meantime.

Aside from that, I have editing to do and a Real Job to attend to, so I'm not exactly awash in spare time.

Just finished "The Mammoth Book of Time Travel SF", edited by Mike Ashley. An excellent collection of 25 short stories featuring various aspects of time travel and its consequences. I have quite a few books in the "Mammoth Books" series, and they're always good. I bought this one as part of an Amazon UK 99p sale quite a while ago. Very enjoyable and highly recommended.

I was expecting to drop back to the Jade del Cameron series, but I'm finding it hard to pick it back up again. So I've read a couple of short stories, including a new, free Archer's Beach story from Sharon Lee, and now I'm moving on to this month's Mobileread book, Brat Farrar from Josephine Tey.
Still reading Brat Farrar from Josephine Tey, but meanwhile finished the audio version of The Warrior's Apprentice, #4 (chronologically) in the Vorkosigan series from Lois McMaster Bujold. This is the first book published that features Miles Vorkosigan, and is the first appearance of his Admiral Naismith persona. All in all, a delightful romp, and an excellent reading by Grover Gardner. Next up in my audio books is The Vor Game, #5 in the series, and also read by Grover Gardner. But this week's goal is to finish Brat Farrar, and start on the first of the Erle Stanley Gardner Perry Mason books.

Next, I've borrowed The Doomsday Bag (Ed Noon #20) by Michael Avallone as my February selection from the Amazon lending library.
The Doomsday Bag was another good read from Michael Avallone! As usual, I enjoyed the story, but I wasn't real happy with the abrupt and open-ended ending. Oh well, not every book is perfect.

Next I'm going to try The Girl on the Pier by Paul Tomkins that I just got from Amazon for $0.99.

I loved the book from Bette Lee Crosby. It was a tear jerker and so amazing. The author did tell me parts of the story were based on real life. I highly recommend anything by Bette. She has a unique way of writing that is so refreshing.

Also finished all the books by Charlene Raddon. When these were originally published in the 90's I know I did not read them. I was to much in to Stephen King or books based in regency England. The books were good but not something that blew me away. The writing was fine. The problem was me. I am really on a cozy mystery kick right now and nothing else is measuring up to what my brain wants to read.

I have an Indie Reads author challenge that I am attempting to work thru this year. Read at least 10 books by indie authors from the indiereader.com list. I started reading Ladd Springs by Dianne Venetta. The book was okay for me. Being a farm girl I have a problem with land being take or purchased by large corporations so they can build someone new because it is easier for them to take farm land than tearing down an abandoned building. The writing was okay but there were several editing errors in the book. Then I have a problem with characters getting everything thy desire. Even characters that abused or cheated on someone. They received what they wanted.

After finished book one I moved on to book two. Ladd Fortune by Dianne Venetta and it was the same. Editing errors through out the book and characters receiving everything they want. Again this book was okay for me. Not what I was expecting after reading the description. I wonder why the author gave the characters everything they wanted. I really did not enjoy this book and it took longer to finish than I planned.

I started book 3 in this series last night Hotel Ladd by Dianne Venetta and I got two or three pages into the book. In book two a female character cheated on who she was with. This character was mean and abusive to everyone in the area. Well she ended up pregnant and her hearts desire was the child belonged to the man she cheated on. Well again she got what she wanted. After reading that I DNF'ed this book and the rest of the series. I am not going to read a book where all characters receive everything they want no matter what.

Back in November Harlequin author Ryshia Kennie contacted me asking me to read/review her debut book with them Suspect Witness. I plan to start and finish this tonight and get the review wrote for release day.

Have a great day everyone and if you have cold weather stay warm and remember spring is about 8 weeks away.
On Saturday I finally got Motif for Murder by Laura Childs from my library. I finished the book early Monday morning. I really should of read these books in order but I did not want to wait so long to finish this series. It was a good interesting read.
I also finished Suspect Witness. It was a good romantic suspense.

Currently reading The Callaways series by Barbara Freethy. I finished book 1 earlier this morning and started book two.

I'm reading "A hero's guide to being an outlaw" it's the third book in the series by Christopher Healy.

It's supposed to be a Teen book but I find the humour very good, so I've devoured the two other books already (I started the Saturday).

My favourite series still remains "The Rats and the Bats" by Eric Flint and Dave Freer.

I should have said "re reading". I didn't like it the first time I read it, sort of skimmed through. At that time I thought she was over dramatizing everything, unlike her other books that I have read.

I decided to give it another try and see if I feel differently this time.

Almost finished with "Tread Softly On My Dreams". Loving it every minute.
