Kindle firmware version 5.7.2 - Page 2

I have updated my voyage and started the update to my PW2. I have to say that the screen of my voyage looks better then it did. The brightness level is much more crisp. I am not crazy about the home screen, but I do like the quicker menus for starting WIFI and some of the other options.

Also my PW2 screen looks crisp now and I am not seeing the light shadows at all. I have to say that I have one of the PW2s with the screen that is as near perfect as can be but it seems better now.

Since you seem to seriously dislike Amazon and Kindles, why not buy a Kobo where you can install koreader?

It's probably pretty early for the OTA (Over The Air) update to be pushed. I downloaded it from the link in the first post

Thanks for the headsup. I'm updating now. I already have a Kobo so it looks like the screen will be similar on my Kindle now so looking forward to playing with it.

It seems like 5.7.2 adds also a new kernel module for USB OTG

I like the new update, particularly the removal of the personal stripe for docs. 75% of my books are docs so thats a big plus. I don't mind the recommendations, I don't get tempted by them anyway and I can ignore the Goodreads icon as I don't link my goodreads account to Amazon.

It does give the kindle a much more modern and fresh look so its to be welcomed. My Voyage also seems much more brighter but thats probably an optical illusion.

I like the update overall. Specially the quick access menu.

I do have the home screen turned off, felt a bit cluttered to me. Haven't checked out the reading experience yet.

I love the new update. I could do without the recommended books feature but it's worth it for the rest. This is quite a radical change in UI and seems to have come out of nowhere. I wonder whether this points to there being no Voyage 2 in the foreseeable future, as otherwise I think they would have saved it for that (as in the new features in the PW2 which was otherwise extremely similar to the PW1.

I've been thinking for some time about what Voyage 2 would be like, and I can only assume a jb will be harder than ever, if possible at all. I've been undecided for a while but finally ordered a kobo aura h20...yesterday. :| I can take care of most of the things that annoy me about the kindle reading experience (justification, leading, fonts) with Calibre, but I want a custom screensaver. I love the flat screen, page turn buttons and origami cover of the Voyage, but Amazon making it harder and harder to customize really has gotten annoying. I've had kindles since the first one and have jailbroken each as soon as soon as it was possible. Of course I'll still jb my Voyage when/if it becomes available, but if I had waited just one more day I might not have bought the kobo.
