Bands of Mourning was just published tomorrow (it is 1/26 Eastern I guess).
For anyone who has read the Mistborn series to date, Bands of Mourning was excellent. There is also a bonus novella available as of Tuesday, "Secret History", that fills in a lot of background information. Don't read the novella unless you have read Bands of Mourning.

I think I may have read this before. And I'm not enjoying it this time very much. I think I might abandon it .
It's two novel-length satires (on on TV and one on Publishing) and a few shorts. Disapppointing. Mostly abandoned. Not funny. Not really SF.

Next up: The Art Whisperer by Charlotte and Aaron Elkins. Something I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy, bought back in April 2015 for just £1.

I have been waiting for this book for about 2 months and now that I have started it I have a sneaking suspicion I have read it before. Too many scenes are familiar-ish. Oh well, I am still enjoying it and it is a very quick read.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the Jade del Cameron series. IIRC, the first book is a bit shaky and finding-its-ground (I myself got introduced to them via the 2nd, which was featured on the library's bookshelves as some sort of theme week promo), but it's pretty solid from then on.

Darn you, ATDrake! I'm already over budget this month!

(Charlie heads off to look up the latest codes from the Kobo thread, cause full price isn't on my list of desirables. And I can't imagine waiting for the library to have it!!!)
So, Jade del Cameron got put aside for the moment, as I went directly into the improbable but so enjoyable world of Ava Lee with The Princeling of Nanjing. Not available yet in US stores, but available in Canada and couponable at Kobo Canada. Which, when you combine the unlimited 50% off coupon with the difference between the Canadian dollar and the US dollar, makes the book about $3.50 USD. If you've never read any of the Ava Lee books, RUN out and get one of the early ones. Start with The Water Rat of Wanchai, which is couponable at Kobo. You've never met an accountant like Ms. Lee, I assure you.

In this episode, Ms. Lee is primarily in Shanghai, and is trying to move her fashion business forward. She gets involved helping a friend who is head of the local Triad, and things get far dicier than she ever intended.

I'm about 80% finished with the book, having finally fallen asleep and letting my Kindle hit the floor at about 1AM. But off to finish it now. Work can wait.

I was right, An excellent art mystery. Most enjoyable.

Then I started Moon Flower by James P Hogan, bought in a Baen bundle way back in February 2008.
Abandoned after a handful of chapters. Far, far, far too much tell not show. Not least the incessant info dumps about the characters.

Next, I'm going to read Finders Keepers (Bill Hodges Trilogy #2) by Stephen King. This book is a follow up to Mr. Mercedes!
As with all of the Stephen King novels that I've previously read...and I've read most of them, I found Finders Keepers to be quite engrossing as well as highly entertaining and am looking forward to his 3rd novel in this trilogy.

Next, I've borrowed The Doomsday Bag (Ed Noon #20) by Michael Avallone as my February selection from the Amazon lending library.

Yep -- an excellent book and now sitting in the list of "best of 2016".

I finished listening to Peter and the Sword of Justice by Dave Barry & Ridley Pearson; enjoyed it VERY much. Just sorry that the series has ended. In the last week or so of January, I flew through a bunch of books:

Just One Damned Thing After Another by Jodi Taylor
Cinder by Marissa Meyer
The Girl Who Never Was by Skyler Dorset
The Scam by Janet Evanovich & Lee Goldberg

In addition to The Girl Who Never Was, I read the two novellas in the series: The Girl Who Kissed a Lie and The Girl Who Read the Stars.

Now reading The Boy With the Hidden Name by Skylar Dorset and listening to The Glassblower by Petra Durst-Benning.

Finished. Enjoyed it every bit as much as I expected.

I was expecting to drop back to the Jade del Cameron series, but I'm finding it hard to pick it back up again. So I've read a couple of short stories, including a new, free Archer's Beach story from Sharon Lee, and now I'm moving on to this month's Mobileread book, Brat Farrar from Josephine Tey.

Finished up The Name of the Wind and Wise Man's Fear. They were great...should have waited until book 3 had a release date though, haha.

Also finished Half a King by Joe Abercrombie. Good stuff but since it actually had an ending, I won't be moving on to book 2 just yet.

About to start Peter F. Hamilton's Pandora's Star (to be followed by Judas Unchained) as I've heard good things about them.

Recently finished "Eternal Frontier" by James H. Schmitz, which I bought from Baen in 2002. This is the final volume of Schmitz's collected stories released by Baen, and gathers together the non-series stories he wrote. Contains some very good stories, and I recommend it.

I'm currently reading the Warhammer 40K tie-in Horus Rising by Dan Abnett, as part of a sub-challenge/minor enthusiasm to investigate tie-in fiction. I've already read a novelisation of the Space: Above and Beyond pilot, and I'm also counting Neverwhere, since it was developed alongside the TV version. I'd like to cover all the major bases and read a Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who, D&D, and some kind of videogame spin-off, but I'll see how I get on, and what I can get hold of without putting myself out too much.

Anyway, Horus Rising was a freebie from Apple a few years ago, which means it's an iBook, and I have to read it on my iPad. What a pain. I'm about half way through the book, and it's OK, but doesn't seem to have really taken off yet.
