I much prefer the method you described, rather than using the button along the left edge of the unit, because: 1) My right-hand fingers are already poised around the front button assembly, since that's what I just used to look up a definition. 2) My cover is not folded back, as a book light is clipped to its spine ("hinged" area, so-to-speak) at the top. 3) My black cover doesn't have enough of a cutaway above the left-edge buttons to allow easy access. 4) I have to use the little finger(nail) of my left hand to get in there and press the proper left-edge button effectively. This means I have to stop supporting the unit with my left hand, change my right hand's position to support the unit, etc., etc., and then change hand positions back again to resume reading. It's awkward and inefficient for me (though not for everyone, of course, each person having different positions, comfort levels, and habits). So thanks again for what is to me a useful tip! |

As I shortly had 2 Cybooks in my hands, one with the 796 and one with the 820 firmware I can tell, that they dramatically decreased startuptime with this version.

With the same content the new firmware took 13 seconds less to boot - that is a speed-up of more than 25% on my Cybook - just thought i'd let you know. Last edited by Pulp; 12-24-2008 at 08:37 AM. |

Your description sounds like they decreased startup time with 820 -- which sounds good to me!

I timed my startup with about 25-30 books. It was 20 seconds flat.

Did you notice any new features in version 820? Or any other improvements?

EDIT: Forgot to say: Whee! Faster boot times! Very good news. |

Where do you get a build 820? I find only build 796 on the Bookeen website.

In this case, the dramatically decreased startup time may also be caused by some hardware improvement in the new models. I hope the newest build will be made available as an update so we can check this out.

Is 820 an interim update, which is 'just' enhancements, but no new features? Or are there things implemented on it that we can reasonably expect to be included in Bookeen's new firmware, when released?

Hi, I have 2 cybook gen3, one with the 796 and other with de 820, and yes, the second one is faster, but I think is due to the new 400 Mhz samsung processor.

?? What 'new 400 MHz samsung processor'? AFAIK, all Cybooks are identical, except for the 512 vs. 64 MB internal flash in the newer models.
