Correct. The entire story is different. It's not even an adaptation; is a remake/re-imagining. They took the characters, locations and main plot, added some new stuff, and wrote their own version of the Elfstones story. Which, IMHO, should have been called "The Ellcrys of Shannara," even back then.

Agreed. This is my biggest complaint about the series so far, but I am enjoying it.

I think what happened is they released episodes 3-4 last week on Google Play, which were in total the first 4 episodes like they had available for MTV subscribers. So I actually did not have a new episode to watch on Google Play this week.

Are you now talking about episode 5? I haven't seen it yet.

With regard to dialog, I think that they may be writing the scripts similar to how the book is written. Within many books, especially fantasy (and Sherlock Holmes as well) I see communication I can't believe would actually happen. Nobody would ever talk like that.

Or is it even worse than that...?

The show has really jumped the shark, in my opinion. And yes, the dialogue makes me grateful that I don't watch anything else on MTV.

Spoiler:
Will sleeping with Amberle, Slanter (didn't appear in Elfstone, but was a main character in Wishsong) leading Ander out to the Breakline, Eventine killed and replaced by the Changeling. None of this happened in Elfstones.

As I said previously in this thread: they haven't adapted Elfstones. They've taken the names of the characters, places, basic plot points, and wrote a new story.

Will loved Amberle in the book, and for obvious reasons ends up with Eretria, but AFAIK, he didn't sleep with anyone. In this series he's an utter dolt, being seduced and robbed twice by Eretria, and now him sleeping with Amberle ruins half of the end already, as in the book, part of the plot twist was that he 'didn't get the girl', and now he already has. Pity.

I get that. I'm fine with changes, adaptations and "reimaginings." But I still require them to be good ones in order to enjoy them. Forget this show's book roots. I think this show sucks when judged entirely on its own merits.
