Considering Kobo Glo HD, should I?
My Kobo Aura HD just suddenly died after 1 year and about 3 months of heavily being used. And it could not be repaired, while the model is not available anymore. Bummer. But all within the legal warranty period, so I got my money back. Hurrah
![]() Now I'm considering a Kobo Glo HD with a slightly smaller screen. Can it be recommended? What are you experiences? |

My experience would recommend the Kobo Aura H2O.I like the larger screen.

I have the Aura HD and the Glo HD. I do not have the H2O. I love the Glo HD! It is a great screen, and a great size. I carry it with me everywhere. The Aura HD, I do not take out of the house. I wish I had the H2O, but I don't think I'd take it out of the house, either, due to the size and fragile nature of e-ink screens.
So, to answer your question, either the Go HD or the H2O would be great replacements to your lost Aura HD. Both have better screens. The question is, do you want the larger screen, or more portability? |

The Kobo Aura H2O seems to suffer from the same "sudden death" issue I had with the Kobo Aura HD. And it is an older model. Although you've a good point for the bigger screen: 6.8" versus 6".
IMHO 7" is ideal for reading, but 6" will also do nicely (I also still using my trusty PRS-T1). But then, you cannot have it all, can you? ![]() |

I went for the Glo HD as the reimbursement of the Aura HD covers almost exactly the costs of the Glo HD + new protective case.

What makes you think I do this? Because your's is still functioning? Remember: YMMV. I "googled" and found some pointers about Aura HD and Aura H2O which encountered the very same problem I had. That's why I stated "it seems" because you cannot deduce any real info other than "it happens to others as well and hence it is not an isolated occurrence".
Please make no "empty" conclusions. |

Keep in mind that a few people posting on forums != a widespread problem. It's not a representative sample.
If you go googling for people who love their Aura H2Os and have had no problem with them (such as myself) you won't find as many... simply because people who are having no problems rarely post to message boards. Doesn't mean they're not out there.. or change the fact that they're likely in the majority. |

I have both the Aura H2O and the Glo HD (and a Glo and a Touch). Both are excellent. The Aura H2O was bought when the light failed on the Glo (over two years heavy use). The Glo HD was bought a couple of months later because I could. The Glo HD gets a lot more use as the smaller size is more convenient during my commute. Personally, I can't fault either. |

The only reader of mine (many) that ever died a sudden death was the Kobo Aura that I dropped on a hard tiled floor. The case did not save it.

@booklover6 - yes... a significant number of supposedly spontaneous "sudden deaths" reported here are just smashed screens. And it eventuates that the person had crammed it in a backpack, or left it in a hot car, or etc.

I thought the H2O wonderful (better than my Aura HD which I never managed to restart after a complicated book killed it (and I tried everything on this forum save opening it). Then I bought the Glo HD, initially as a spare, but it quickly turned into my main reader. I recently tried it again, to read a book with many pictures (del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities), and I gave up immediately: to my eyes the Glo HD is so much better that it compensates the extra 7", though I prefer the extra real estate and much prefer the height/width ratio of the H2O: I read kepubs only with header/footer, and all my books go to the reader with 5pt top/bottom margins, which looks better with it. I wish Kobo would combine the Glo HD quality with the Aura HD size - I'm indifferent to the waterproof feature.
PS: a smaller weight would be good too - I have arthritic hands and it does make a difference. Last edited by anacreon; 01-29-2016 at 03:21 AM. |

Just received the Kobo Glo HD.
I like it a lot, its sturdy, almost the same size as the Sony PRS-T3, but then with a better screen and background lightning. IMHO it is also more responsive (quicker) then the Kobo Aura HD, so that is a bonus. Further, it is advantageous that the look & feel of the GUI is already familiar, so one can start quickly. When it also exceeds its warranty period, then I'm a happy and content man ![]() |

The only Reader I had die on me was a Sony Reader PRs-505. It started with a thin line across the middle of the screen and it eventually just died. I think it was a screen controller issue. I called Sony and asked whatt hey could do and they were able to send me a 600 for $50 and paid to have the 505 sent back. I did that. The 600 I managed to sell for $100 and then bought the 650. It wasn't long since the 505 died that the 650 came out. I really didn't like the 600. Other than that, every Reader I have owned has never suffered "sudden death". I've had my Readers in messenger bags and knapsacks with no screen breakage. But then when I know I am taking my Reader with me, i make sute what I have in the bag is not going to be breaking it.
