My mantra for some time has been "Science in science fiction -- let's have some!" There's been a strange dearth of it in the genre in recent years. Or decades...

Indeed, most readers seem to have blown right past that aspect of the book.

Yes, you see the importance of science (a lot of the books is around scientific who are there to discover the book) but in the same way you get the character's growth in other books.

I am always intrigued when I see those Lois McMaster Bujold books and I have had others recommend to me I read them since I love sci fi romance. But the fact the series is so long and its a bit difficult to figure out the reading order has kept me away. I am very very OCD in reading stuff in order. Chronological that is. And I detest shorts and when series are peppered in between with them I just tune out.
The prices also don't help, way to much of an investment and they aren't at any of my libraries. So I keep putting them at the back burner.
I noticed they have new covers at Amazon, they look odd. More like 60's spy thrillers. Bizarre.

I read:

Cold Hearted Rake by Lisa Kleypas (3.5 stars) didn't love the actual couple in the book as I liked the other characters and the potential couple of the next book.

Loving a Lost Lord by Mary Jo Putney (4 stars) Had this freebie since 2009, finally got around to it

Murder in Thrall by Anne Cleeland (4 stars) This one was weird. I didn't really know what to think of this starting out and didn't like the way the heroine talked and it was just bizarre. Then it kicked in and after that, I could not put it down anymore. So took 30% to get there though for me.

I love this series, but it definitely isn't for everyone and I always recommend it with reservations. I liked both of the main characters, but with him basically being a vigilante (as well as completely obsessed with her), I imagine this wouldn't appeal to some readers. Personally, I've always loved anti-heroes, so it doesn't bother me.

Oddly enough, that part didn't bother me at all. I like odd ducks

It was more the heroine and her talking that was off to me. She sounded like a male PI in a noir novel at times. While clutching a cigar in her mouth.

It all came together though.
