Kobo Discounts: Coupon Codes + Discussion

Kobo Aus and NZ both have the Refer a Friend, Get $10 credit promo happening:

I don't know if it started when the other countries did, the info about it is at the bottom of promo emails.

Yep. I even managed to get a 45% one and, of course, can't use it. Hopefully they'll fix it soon!

I seem to recall that on previous occasions when the codes didn't work it ended up that even when they corrected the problem the already issued codes still didn't work.

As a general precaution to anyone reading this post it may be best not to play the Contest for a few more days and then test one game and one code only.

I just successfully used a US code for 30% off an issue of Lightspeed Magazine. Lightspeed also appears at Smashwords, but I don't believe that Smashwords distributes it to Kobo. I do have a couple of SW titles that I hope to get at Kobo with coupons, so I'd like to hear any further info.

Yep. US code in the US store. And I'm in the US, so no proxies, etc., involved.

Ahh, peachiekene is in the US too, so maybe they've sorted it.

Yep, just tried to use one of the contest promo codes and it wouldn't work. I'm in the USA buying on the US site. Book is on the eligible for promo codes list (made sure before trying to use). Sigh, hope they fix it soon!

Same for me. I talked with customer service. They tried to say the book was not coupon eligible, but I pointed out I had two coupon eligible books in my cart at the time. I asked her to please test them both and sure enough both are coupon eligible. Then they had me send a screencapture of my email with the code (they didn't want the actual email, but whatever ). Still waiting to hear back. I miss their chat feature.

I tried putting FHLGZP in my cart, and it accepted it, it's a 55% off coupon. I'm holding out for something better, so here's a couple 45% off coupons too: WFXRQA W5FEUP STZW8U

This is great. My first and only code, which I got after posting the contest info yesterday, is a 65%.

Thanks for the warning, because, yes, it doesn't work.

So, it seems some US Contest codes work on the US site and some don't.

And the problem is, if you get a good code like ferrywoman did, it may not work now or at all if they do fix the problem ........

I'm still interested in whether the inconsistent coupon performance might be related to the publisher or distributor of the ebook.

But, of course, I'm more interested in when they all start working again.


EDIT: Another data point. I just played again and got a 35% coupon, which I successfully used on an ebook that was distributed to Kobo by Smashwords. Maybe they're making up for all the 10% coupons they gave me in the past?
