That's not actually true. Plenty of manufacturers make products for Apple hardware. I use a mophie case for my iPhone and a kudo case for my iPad. I have a third party lightning connector in my car. iPhones have been using the lightning connector for a while. I personally don't like micro-usb connectors. I've had too many devices become unusable when the connector breaks off. In addition, I find the lightning connector easier to connect. Different strokes for different folks. |

In that case, the company is Tuneskit. The specific software is iBook Copy. They also make a program to remove DRM for audio books and a program to remove DRM for movies. As I said, I've been using them for a while and haven't had any problems through multiple OS upgrades. Your mileage may very and future performance can not be predicted by past performance. A friend of mine bought an IBook ever about 12 months ago out of simple curiosity as to whether it was still possible to remove DRM with Requiem. As it turned out it was possible but was a great deal of trouble. Basically she needed to download an old version of ITunes and the matching version of Requiem. As regressing ITunes versions causes problems, she chose to use a virtual machine running XP which had never had ITunes installed. This did work at the time, probably still does and probably will continue to do so whilst Apple continues to allow use of the old ITunes version(s) needed. It is worth noting that not all ITunes books have DRM, though clearly the vast majority do.
I suspect, with no direct evidence whatsoever, that Tuneskit may be based on Requiem but updated for each new version of ITunes. There is nothing mystical about Fairplay, though Apple seems to be far more committed to and protective of its DRM. Personally, I see no reason to ever buy an ebook from Apple. |

Maybe Apple would sell more books if they paid the creator of Requiem to update his software....

I suspect that Apple probably would not sell more books if they paid the creator of Requiem to update his software. As a percentage, very few people ever bother to DRM content. We are very much the exception rather than the rule. From Apple's point of view, the iTunes book store is for that percentage of people who want to buy the latest best seller on their iPad for the least amount of effort. I suspect that the revenue that Apple gets from ebooks is orders of magnitude less than what they get for music, apps or movies. |

And like many jokes, based on a nugget of truth: lots of people have long refused to buy digital content that can't be independently backed up or transcoded. Me among them; I only picked up DRM-free until C-lit; only MS Reader until Mobi DeDRM; and never bought lrf.
It's strictly a matter of self-defense, not religion. |
