The straight lines could be controller failure. What indicates a broken substrate are the curved lines across parts of the screen, which only happen with a break in the glass substrate. I can't see the impact point though - often in these cases there are radiating curves. So perhaps the break was through a twisting action instead of an impact. |

No, the picture you posted is definitely a broken substrate. If you disassemble the unit, you will be able to see the broken glass. I see the curves in the picture, and it looks just like the screen on my husband's broken Kindle, which I did disassemble back in 2009.

I really don't think it was just plugging it in to power that broke things. Unless you plugged it into 240V directly ![]() |

as I said the problem happened after that plug-in into the wall charger. Even if it is the screen, how is it possible that at the same time both the screen and the motherboard got stuck? I'm more and more thinking about some "electric - mess " happened.. it was for sure not 240V

Surprisingly many (NOT all) electronics/small appliances are rated for 110-240V so pretty good odds you wouldn't cook it with 240V. Very handy when going overseas to only need an adapter for the plug end rather than a converter to take the voltage down.

Is it still under warranty?
If yes, contact Amazon. |

In that case,
I don't think there is much you can do. However, Amazon may still be running that special where they will pay $5 for a non working kindle and $20 towards a new Kindle. |
