Just stopping by to wish everyone a safe, healthy, and very happy new year.
Other than the new year, nothing really new or different in my life; still drinking the same teas, reading the same books, going motorcycle touring for a few days every other month, cooking and eating great foods, fencing three days a week, and generally enjoying life. Found a wonderful ancient temple in the jungles a couple of weeks ago, though. That was new for us!

I am browsing MobileRead instead of tidying my basement. As usual.

Looking forward to next week. When everything should return to normal. In the past two weeks more often than not I worked up to 12 hours a day when the store was open.

Yesterday I managed to finish processing all the shipments that had come in during the last couple of weeks, which means that I don't have to go downstairs on Sunday and Monday.

Best of all I'm almost going on vacation. It does mean that next week I'll have to do all the chores that I wasn't able to do in the last couple of weeks. But the first week of January is usually quiet, so I should have time to do that.

Playing with my new phone. It's now updating and after that I have to set it up the way I like it and install and set up the apps I want/need.

Preparing for a week away. My last load of laundry has been put in the washing machine and everything that I can pack today is on my bed, awaiting packing.

I'm now agonizing over which books to put on my Kindle, which is silly because I have wifi access and my Calibre library is in a cloud, so I'll have access to it.

Put on me wellies, squelched out to refill the birdfeeder - down to the last 2" of seed in the tube - and was soundly squawked at by a flock of tiny birds clinging to the wire mesh surround - mostly finches, cardinals, and others that do not migrate.

Feeder now filled to the top.
Birds now silently eating.
Stella cat watching said birds intently.
Wellies on the back steps coated in red mud.

In the past Lexie loved to sleep on the diningroom table underneath the lamp in winter, on either one of her blankets or in a wicker basket. However, the past two or three winters her favourite spot has been right next to the gas heater.

Until last night. My father replaced the incandescent lightbulb with an LED one. It wasn't replaced before because that lamp is on a dimmer switch and only this week we found a LED bulb which worked with that dimmer.

Within half an hour of changing the bulb Lexie was sitting on the diningroom table, underneath the lamp, looking very pissed off because she had lost her heat source. She also knew exactly who was responsible for this change because she spend all night and all morning staring at my father from the table.

Until this afternoon when he put back the incandescent lightbulb, put down one of her blankets and she happily went to sleep.

The zipper on one of my shirt pockets came open and I slid the zip thingie off and turned the pocked inside out and slid it back on one side, then fought for 15 or 20 minutes to get it going on the other side. When I finally got it to start zipping, I took a needle and thread and locked the base with approximately 20,000 stitches, all individually tied off. That was when I realized I'd sewed the zipper on backwards. So I cut out all the threads and started again. Success, finally.

My wife now says she has a pair of pants I can sew. She's so cute. She thinks I might actually be that nice.

My mom has a wall hanging just for this.
It says: as ye sew, so shall ye rip.
She hung it right beside her sewing machine, at eye level when one is in the sewing chair.

I saw a store in Midlothian last week that caters exclusively to bird lovers. They stock supplies for birdwatchers as well as birdfeeders and bird food. I told my wife that if I hit the lottery I might just open such a store. I don't see how would bring great riches to the store owner, but it seems a way to fill your like with nice people. Generally speaking, folks that like animals are always good to know.
