Will do. But right now, I'm still several weeks from getting it from the library, looking at the current holds list.

Well, until tonight I was doing fairly well for 2016, then on my way home my Kindle decided to give up on me so I need to get a new one it looks like. I hate reading on my phone but it looks like that is my option for the next few weeks until tax return time.

The worst part is that I was 10% from finishing my current (1200 page) book and I REALLY want to keep reading right now.

Now the question is if I splurge and get the Voyage or just get a PW3...

Sucks about your eReader Dazrin. I'm reading on my phone right now.

Thank you. I really don't like reading on my phone but at least I have that option. If nothing else I do still have a few paper books lying around that I could read too. I haven't purged quite all of them yet. I think I remember how to use one of those.

And as I said in the Kindle forum, I don't really mind getting a new ereader but I was hoping to do it on my terms. This one has been good to me for 5 years now.

Can't read on my phone either, unless I absolutely have to. Sucks about your Kindle, but in a way I do enjoy the excitement being forced to choose a new device when an old one fails .

I'm 4 "books" into my challenge (75 for the year) already, but as 3 are short stories and the other a short novel (average page length of 72 overall) I'm not in any position to gloat. I have set myself a sub-challenge of a 300 page average by the end of the year, just so I don't get too complacent.

^Book length always seems to sort it self out for me. The only somewhat short book year I had was the year I did all the countries. Many of those books were shorter, but it still came out to a 261 page average. Even last year reading a few very short works for the bookclub netted a 284 page average. I tend to read shorter books because I'd rather read two entirely different things than one thing, but that is me.

Things all balance out. It's like the carryover book at the end of the year. You are either shortchanging last year or this year so if you just read and include them in the year you finished it all balances out in the end.

Had a good day of reading yesterday. Didn't finish anything, but made good progress on two titles.

Sorry, Dazrin. It hurts to have to get a new gadget before you're ready.

I'm glad the conversation about where we are in our nascent challenges is happening, because I needed the kick in the reading rump. Starting slow on my overall numbers is not a major problem for me, but I realized that I haven't given any thought at all to my sub-challenges, which for me are the point. I can't afford to get behind on those and that situation needs to be remedied stat. One week of the year gone and I ought to have gotten one of those books read. I do have to pace myself with the meatier tomes, so I have to get cracking.

I'm also aware that I need to start reading some of my 2007 books. So far I've been reading very recent purchases.

If those books were milk you wouldn't be drinking that foul-smelling expired stuff.

They're not unread because I didn't want to read them! I just haven't had time...

More of a statement that sometimes our reading habits and interests change and it might be worthwhile to remove items from your TBR that are on the fringe of one's interest. As you say though you are going to read them.

But then I'm an anti-clutter person.

I will certainly abandon any that no longer interest me. But I will at least take a look at them first.

I prefer to read on my Kindle, but I have read on my phone. Recently, in fact, that had became my preferred method to read at doctor's offices and at my dentist's waiting room until I saw how much bandwidth the Kindle android app uses up. It was at the top of my list for bandwidth use.

Hope you get a new one soon. I'd like my next to be a Voyage, but there's nothing wrong with a Paperwhite.

You beat me to this. Given that it's so much easier to manage other people's challenges, I'm going to offer the unsolicited observation that my inclination would also be to make at least one rough cut to backburner the titles of least interest to me. Life's short; TBRs are long; tastes change; there are always more books. Why not read the cream? And sometimes there's a reason why titles have languished for nine years.

That my own Calibre library of unread books has five grades for reading appeal has no bearing on my comment!

I read sometimes on my phone - waiting rooms and the like, when I didn't plan ahead to bring my T3. Sometimes it takes me a year to read a book that way . I use Aldiko App and have the book stored on the phone, so I don't need to use bandwidth.
