If that is how they are calculating the price match then I think it could really end up costing them a lot of money. (I expected they would count the price paid after promo codes as the original price, since the T&C for the coeds usually say something like 'May not be used in conjunction with other promotions or offers')

I am thinking of publisher specials where the publisher doesn't drop the price at all retailers at the same time, but where it takes a day or so for the prices to work through.

There is one I just noticed now where a new release has just dropped from about $21 to $1.99, but the price hasn't updated at Kobo yet and they still have it listed at $16.37. If I bought that with a 20% promo code then going by the example above I would get a $14.38 + $1.64 = $16.02 credit for a book that I only paid $13.10 for. In effect Kobo would be paying me $2.92 plus super points to download the book!

(Edit: The price has updated at Kobo Canada and other countries, but not at Kobo New Zealand yet.)

Beacuse going by the examples here, Kobo is being amazingly generous and calculating the price match credit on the difference between the competitor's price and Kobo's price before promo code, so even if the book is cheaper at Kobo when the promo code is included you can still get a price match credit based on the price you would have paid if you didn't use the promo code.

I suppose it's insurance; if Kobo declines to price match, you won't be so much out of pocket.

I can confirm Price Match works in Canada!

I bought Outlaw of Sherwood by Robin McKinley this morning...

With my coupon I got it on Kobo for $5.85
Google books had it for $1.99

I filled in the price match page, and this afternoon received my refund of $4.45 ($3.86 was the difference between what I paid and the Google price, plus $0.59 for the 10% of what I paid).

Since my refund was $4.45, I technically paid $1.40 for the book instead of getting it at Google for $1.99, so that works well for me! I don't mind getting it back as a store credit, since I always spend too much at Kobo anyway.

Wonderful service, and excellent turn around time on the refund, I was very pleased!
