All of Patricia Wentworth's books are in the Public Domain in Canada, and are available for download from FadedPage. (Please only use this link if she is also in the public domain where you are! If you are where she isn't in the public domain, such as all Life+75 countries, you can find excellent versions of these books on Kindle Unlimited or for reasonable prices from your favourite reseller. Or check out your Public Library!)

I highly recommend the Miss Silver books for anyone who enjoys a good English cozy mystery, and especially for fans of Agatha Christie's Miss Marple, who very much follows on in the tradition started by Miss Silver.

Having ended the year with Miss Silver, I rather think I'll start the new year with another. Next in the series is Miss Silver Deals With Death.
Ah, what a quiet pleasure these books are. You know that nothing bad will happen to anyone who isn't deserving, and that all the good people will come out well in the end, all while Maud Silver knits away, solving everything while churning out baby booties by the truckload, apparently. This was another excellent example, and while I realized about 1/3rd of the way into it that I had read it before, I couldn't remember who did what to whom and I was enjoying it so much I just went ahead and finished it.

Next up, a bit of a break with Miss Silver, and I'm going to start reading this month's Book Club selection, The Golden Compass. I have read this before, as an Audible book, but this time I'm reading the eBook.

Still working on Judas Unchained but decided I needed to get 2016 started faster so I read The Last Question by Isaac Asimov on New Year's Day. Apparently it was one of his personal favorite stories and I did enjoy it quite a bit. One of these days I will try to read some of his longer fiction.

I have started A Myrtle Clover Mystery by Elizabeth Spann Craig but I am having a problem because of so many spelling & grammar errors. While reading the first book in this series character names used in the middle of a sentence were not capitalized and there were several places were quotation marks were forgotten when a character was speaking. This really put a stick in my reading and I would get thrown out of my sync. I finished and had some very good laughs but after starting the second book in this series last night I have found the same errors.

I am thrilled. Author Amanda Lee sent the book 9 in An Embroidery Mystery series. She autographed it to me. I stayed up Saturday night reading the book. Yes to me it was a great as the rest in the series. I loved it!!! The book is now gracing my bunny cabinet with bunny figurines.

I am still struggling to read A Myrtle Clover Mystery by Elizabeth Spann Craig. I am on book 5. I am still encountering editing errors but not as bad as the first book. I hope to finish this series by Wednesday. I have several reading challenges coming up and I want/need to start those books.

Which I enjoyed, but I found the setup unbelievable, and the villain's motivation too weak.

Now I'm reading two more recent acquisitions. One from this year!
David Mitchell: Back Story by David Mitchell (ebook)
and
A Slip of the Keyboard by Terry Pratchett (pbook)

I've got both, and will probably be switching back and forth. A real bit of Whispersyncing this month, starting with the Kindle edition as I'm out of town at the moment.

So far this year, I've read two books borrowed from Kindle Unlimited: Witches in Flight by Debora Geary and Between a Clutch and a Hard Place by Gayle Trent. I picked up the Gayle Trent book based on the recommendation by KyBunnies. It was a simple, but amusing, cozy mystery. I've already downloaded the next one in the series.

Right now I'm reading two other books on the Kindle. The first is The Banished of Muirwood by Jeff Wheeler. It's a very involved, but really engaging fantasy novel which I picked up from KU. The blurb starts out: "In a world full of magic and mystery," Yeah, that. The second is a SF novel, Illuminae by Amie Kaufman which I borrowed from the public library. Because of the formatting, I simply cannot read it on my eInk K3, so I'm reading it on my iPad.

This was mildly OK. There was a rather long build-up to the final scene. Average writing skill. The main character was sufficiently developed although his constant drug cravings were very repetitious. It dominated the writing. His obstructive chain smoking I found unpleasant. Rated D+ [2 stars].

Next is the second in The Paladin Prophecy, Alliance by Mark Frost.

Just finished this last night. It was a very interesting window into one of the lesser known eastern religions. It was nice to read the history behind some of Japan's most recognizable features like the temples and the large red gates (torii gates). It was also interesting to see how occupation post-World War II changed the way the religion was run.

Not sure what's next, but likely something from my fiction shelf.

I am reading the Japanese classic Confessions of a Mask by Yukio Mishima. Mishima, who was a finalist for the Nobel Prize in 1963, is most famous for his ritualistic suicide in 1970. Confessions of a mask, published in 1949, is the first person story of a man coming to terms with the fact that he is homosexual and his narrative of his life-long masking thereof.

I finished all the Myrtle Clover Mysteries by Elizabeth Spann Craig. I enjoyed the story but I did not enjoy all the errors I found in the book. I would over look some errors but this author published these book. She is a tradtionally published author and maybe it is me but I feel she should of at least had several editing checks.

Started A Scrapbooking Mystery series by Laura Childs
I finished book one last night and started book two. This was a nice fast past book. Looking forward to reading this series.

While at my library I noticed they had the new novel by Anne Perry. It is a mystery series and looks to revolve around Christmas. Has anyone read this author or series?

I'm actually reading her Thomas Pitt series right now. I think I"m on number 4 or 5? I never can remember. But, I am really enjoying them! I would label them historical cozy mysteries.
I also want to read The Gaslight Mysteries Series by Victoria Thompson.
