That is not a fixable error, but a statement about Topaz formatted books.

So is this a new form of DRM that has to be removed?

I have the Mac Kindle app on my iMac but it won't download that file even though it does on my MacBook Air. I can also read it on the Kindle app on my iPad but I prefer to convert the inferior Kindle format into the better ePub format with its better graphics, actual page numbers (instead of "locations" that change as you read), etc. For the last year or so I've been purchasing Kindle books I can't get in ePub format and using Calibre to convert them to ePub.

Topaz books are not supported by calibre.

Topaz books internally are image glyphs with OCRed text. If you DeDRM it using Apprentice Alf's tools, it (the tools) will extract the OCR layer and give you an HTMLZ book, which calibre can handle.

The resulting quality is not guaranteed...

I don't think it is convertible AZW is a wrapper. various stuff can be inside
