Blacklisted Kindle is a Kindle that has been reported stolen.
And even blacklisted Kindle can be used to read side-loaded books, just not DRMed content directly from Amazon (without de-DRMing first).
And are you aware that Josieb1 has been rather ambivalent about which one is the reason why "I was told (in writing) [...] my Kindle Fires would no longer work at all [...]"?

I don't blame Jon for making that mistake.

Ahem. If you want to compare and contrast blacklisted devices and banned accounts, please do it elsewhere.

Regardless of anyone's view I think we can all agree that it would be beneficial if Amazon had a proper policy for continued access to ALL digital purchases, ebook, video, audio, etc, for closed accounts. No retailer has the right to remove access to purchased items.

Pdurrant is attempting to at least make Amazon think about it.

Personally I think we need laws, I just don't expect them any time soon.

At Bokes, sorry they closed your account but why were you letting so many people use your account?
I had a prime account- fast free shipping- I ordered for family- myself, dad,brother,wife- even my boss (which was in hindsight a mistake. He ordered a lot and probably had me send back the most. Although it did appear most of his returns were legit. Defective, wrong size, etc,)
they would just shoot me a link and I placed the order.
I doubt Amazon cared who was ordering what. They made the cash. But they don't like it when you ask for it back for whatever reason.
My wife now has her own account- so if I really need something I can only get through Amazon I'll go through her.

I recently downloaded the interactive Harry Potter through iBooks and I'm reading it with my son. Works great. $9.99 I really don't miss Amazon or the kindle app all that much.

We would not need laws if Amazon would just be upfront instead of violating their own rules. The say they have a no hassle return and when you use it often enough or with expensive items, you get screwed.

The plain fact is that it was your account, your responsibility. "Most of his returns were legitimate." And the others? Like it or not, they weren't his returns, they were your returns. The downside of Amazon's very generous returns policy is that they must crack down on its abuse. Yes, they could and should do it a lot better in very many ways. Paul is trying to address one of them at the moment.

And really? Going to Apple. The most restrictive of the ebook ecosystems? Do you think they have a more generous returns policy than Amazon?

Every time I sold a Kindle its be Back to Factory & I remove it from my account...thru the Kindle or Fire. And the person buying adds it to their account Before they Pay me! Don't over think this!

Making it a LAW would be complicated since So many Countries are served by amazon. Amazon making a Over All Policy makes more since to me.

When I purchased the PW2 in August they refused to let me pay in Full For some reason the Only option for payment was Credit card thru my son account. Up until then I used Gift Cards...except for Audible.. some reason Has to be Cr Card! So every month I had to make sure That Payment was in His Bank account. ALL that being said. IF My account is closed [not say it will be just using me as an example] Will Amazon allow my son to open an account? Or since his Card is connected to My account cause him to be banned also? IF that happens What would it do to His Cr Rating?

And yet, I recall someone saying she'd never order anything from Amazon, ever again. Because she was too afraid of what uncalled-for action Amazon might take. MR members advised ordering "safe" items and getting return numbers back in line, a suggestion that was roundly excoriated. Because the posters didn't know what they were talking about.

Sigh. I guess I should be glad that reasonable suggestions did have an effect.
