None of the Kobo devices look for anything on the external SD card except books. To be able to change that, you need to connect to a PC and add files to the main memory. You can remove the internal SD card and add files to that directly. If the PC doesn't recognise the device, then you could put the later firmware files on the device this way. But, I don't know if you will be able to do the setup after the firmware has been updated.

need sd image for kobo touch 2.0

Ok first step unbox your new kobo: DONE!
Second destroy it: DONE!

I tried to install XCSoar (KoboRoot.tgz ) but now when I switch on the Kobo, I can only see the XCSoar main screen (but tapping on the buttons nothing happens..).
The factory reset procedure doesn't work.
I cannot read the SD card on my computer (format required)
Can someone help me?
Does anybody have an image for the kobo touch 2.0

Thanks Claudio

You're supposed to wait a couple of days before breaking your Christmas presents

What method? The one listed on Kobo's site probably won't work as that requires the device to boot to a certain point four times. I think XCSoar stops that from happening. If it doesn't boot properly, you can try:

- Make sure the device is charged by plugging it in for at least an hour.
- Ensuring the device is off by holding the power button down for at least 20 seconds.
- Turn the device on but hold the button down.
- Tap both the bottom corners of the screen.
- When the restoring message is displayed, let the power button go.

When I tested this on either my Glo HD or Aura H2O, it took me a couple of tries to get the timing right.

I assume it is a Windows machine. The SD card has three partitions and the first two are either ext3 or ext4. Windows cannot handle that. If you let it format the card, your sunk.

Unfortunately, no. There hasn't been many sightings of the Touch 2.0 here. I don't remember seeing an image created for one yet.

I'd be tempted to try a few things.

First would be to get a brand new SD card, and try installing the Glo HD f/w on it.

Second would involve some linux knowledge but would be to take a backup of the internal SD card, and then, mount the file systems and take a look through the Kobo root file system and see what changes were made by the XCSoar installation, especially at the init scripts and any other startup scripts. Remove as many of those changes as possible (using as a guide those scripts etc found in the f/w download applicable to your device).

Once as many changes as you can were reverted, try rebooting the Kobo; if it works do a factory reset (and once that is done, make an image backup and send it to Davidfor)!

I think the only significant change is in /etc/inittab. All other changes are made within an XCSoar directory

Original
Code:
# This is run first except when booting in single-user mode.
::sysinit:/etc/init.d/rcS
::respawn:/sbin/getty -L ttymxc0 115200 vt100
::ctrlaltdel:/sbin/reboot
::shutdown:/bin/umount -a -r
::restart:/sbin/init
XCSoar
Code:
#
#  XCSoar Glide Computer - http://www.xcsoar.org/
#  Copyright (C) 2000-2015 The XCSoar Project
#

# This inittab has been installed by XCSoar. It launches a menu that
# allows the user to choose between XCSoar and Nickel (the original
# Kobo software)

::sysinit:/opt/xcsoar/bin/rcS
::ctrlaltdel:/sbin/reboot
::shutdown:/bin/umount -a -r
::restart:/sbin/init
If you're comfortable with linux, mount the SD card on a linux (or possibly Mac) and edit the /etc/inittab on the SD card to put back the Kobo content.

Yes, I was thinking about that to. I've been wondering if the Glo HD and Touch2 is the same except for the screen. Testing this with another card would be interesting.

Yes, to both of those. But, rereading the original post and the changes made by XCSoar, I'm pretty sure the factory reset will fix things. Unless the touch screen has actually failed and it was just a coincidence that it happened when starting XCSoar.

Hallo guys, and thank you for all answers.

At the end the simpliest wins!
I did the procedure that davidfor suggested and my kobo is alive again!
(but... where did you find this procedure? )

I will try again to reinstall xcsoar on a new sd card (thanks PaterT...I have to understand something more on Linux)

Thank you one more time!

Good to hear it worked. The procedure came from a Kobo person in another forum. It's the same for all Kobo devices with only one button.
