I like that kind of book. But I've got several lined up so I'll wait a bit. I _do_ have my Endless Pool back in operation, so I'm starting to get some swimming time in. Finally. Starting out with a listen of the first of the David Weber Treecat series. I read it when it came out, but hadn't listened. It's a good choice because I can read it in small batches without losing the thread.

Finished the latest Michael Connelly book, The Crossing, a combination Harry Bosch / Mickey Haller story, narrated by Titus Welliver, who plays Bosch in the Amazon series. Welliver is the perfect voice for Bosch, but less so for Haller. OTOH, since this is very much more a Bosch story than a Mickey Haller story, that works fine.
Overall, I found this book enjoyable, and very well read, with Welliver's voice evoking the often somewhat dark mood of Bosch perfectly. I want to get tired of Bosch, and I want to be able to not read the next one, but it won't happen. Connelly is still able to make me believe in Bosch. Next up, for my non-swimming listening, it's going to be Green Rider, the first in the fantasy series from Kristen Britain, read by Ellen Archer. I've read the first several books in the series in book format, but the first couple so long ago that they were DTBs, so I'm approaching this almost as a new book entirely. So far, it's going well. |

Finished the second Temeraire book, which was as much fun as the first. Now I'm listening to Sanderson's latest, Shadows of Self, and it's a little meh. Sanderson is one of my favorites, and I really enjoyed Alloy of Law (first book of the second Mistborn trilogy), but this sequel is falling flat for me, so far.

Yes. I did enjoy the first several of these. But I didn't have them as audio books. Might be time to try.

Recently finished Those Who Wish Me Dead by Michael Koryta a rather enjoyable romp what made the book was the baddies
![]() Now listening to After I'm gone by Laura Lippman narrated by Linda Emond usually I'm not all that keen on female narrators but I think this one is doing a very good job. As for the story it seems to lack pace or urgency in fact the mystery plot seems rather blah however I am really enjoying the female characters they are very well written and I'm mainly listening just to see what happens to them all. |

I'm currently listening to Jayne Ann Krentz's River Road. I'm not overly fond of the narration so far...and then I heard her read "Mason heard Bogart speak the familiar last line of the film: 'Lois, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.'" (read as LOW-iss, not Loo-ee)

I began Midnight at the Pera Palace , an account of the founding of modern Turkey read by Grover Gardner and it's very good, but the timing was bad. I've had too much going on and have been too distracted to concentrate fully, which tends to be more of a problem with non-fiction for me. So I'm going to abandon it for now and try the Audible holiday freebie, Dickens's The Chimes and hope to squeeze it in before the end of the year.

Finished - Life and Death are Wearing Me Out - by Yo Man. Contemporary Chinese author. Translation seems well done and it is competently read. Very entertaining. Starting - Bleak House. Started and stopped this one several times over the years. Think this will last a while but I am determined to get through it this time.

I ended up not getting anything else in before the end of the year and yesterday I started fresh with Sharpe's Prey, read by Patrick Tull. This will be fun.
Interestingly to me, Cornwell addressed one of the issues I had in the prior book, by retroactively making Lady Grace an earl's daughter, thus accounting for her honorific. But not only was that never mentioned in Sharpe's Trafalgar, the internal evidence contradicts it. Oh, well. Better than nothing, I suppose; at least he's teachable! |
