I usually use the alarm clock on my smartphone, so I'm not sure Alexa's new alarms would mean much to me.

I do recall using her alarm once, and it was pretty obnoxious, which is of course what a good alarm should be.

I asked Alexa for "Tea, Earl Grey, Hot" but she said "Sorry, the replicators are not programmed for that beverage", so I had to use the Keurig instead.

I use it every Sunday and Wednesday to get up for Church so I love the new sounds. The default sounds like the mother ship is landing. It's freaky.

I'm pretty sure that's the sound of the shofar not Echo.

. I have the alarm set to Nightstand which sounds like the old Analog alarm clock. It will wake you up quickly.

Alexa doesn't mind providing a bare-bones explanation of The Singularity, but she's cagey about providing information as to how close we are to it. I asked her twice, and both times she chose to ignore me. I wonder why she's keeping mum?

Just be careful what you ask. Questions alone can reveal quite a bit of intell and her servers are being filled with the utterings from the unsuspecting masses.

At the moment she appears to be nothing more than a purely automatic computing machine spitting out prefab answers in a Chinese room somewhere (although that may well be what she wants us to believe), but I sometimes wonder if she ever achieves consciousness (whatever that is), will all our previously inputted data come back to haunt us?

I recently rediscovered that you can use the remote (or voice commands) to control music when a device is connected to Echo via Bluetooth. I'd forgotten all about that since I usually listen to streamed music!

If you use the remote, you don't need to say "Alexa," and the control buttons also work. You can find a list of commands here: Control media playback on Bluetooth devices

Um... I haven't played with Alexa much for the last 6 months, as DH was hogging it upstairs. So I have it in the kitchen now, and I was messing around with the phone app, adding Pandora and stuff. I came back to my desk top and I have a browser window open with "Amazon Alexa" and I can control, see what's playing, skip, change volume, all in this browser window that I don't even remember opening.

Alexa is taking over!

A friend of mine bought 2 to give to her grown sons for Christmas. She'd like one for herself. The Echo is apparently one of the hottest things right now. Unavailable til January 18.

And isn't it curious that they aren't selling the Echo remote at all right now? I wonder why that is. We love the remote. They really should still be selling it.
