Thanks!

The printer may be more than most, but the ink is rather cheaper than most. It is one of the new Epson EcoTank models.

Thank you, Jon, that's very helpful. This device - both its printing and scanning functions - definitely works with Windows 10?

Yes, definitely. Under the Support & Downloads section, you will see drivers for Windows 10.

Happy to help. If I was looking for a new inkjet printer, I'd be looking at the Epson EcoTank models.

Isn't that just a fancy name for what is effectively an integrated CIS? It's probably neater than the existing retrofit 3rd party stuff that's been around for years but I guess it functions the same way.

3rd party ink cartridges can fail to work due to the chips no in the ink cartridges.

I'm not talking about the simple 3rd party cartridges but the continuous ink system (CIS ) where you have refillable tanks outside the printer that feed ink via small tubes to cartridges inside the printer. So you just buy large bottles of ink to top up the external tanks rather than change cartridges. Can be a bit of a faff to install but once it's done you never have to open the printer again

It just seems to me that Epson have simply integrated that in some of their printers and are calling it "EcoTank"

Nothing wrong with what Epson has done with the EcoTank printers.

Where did I say there was something wrong with them doing that? I'm just finding mildly amusing that they didn't like people using CIS 10 years ago, but now have the thing built into their printers and marketing it as 'Eco'

I don't think it was CIS they didn't like, it was third party anything.

It would seem that Epson is abandoning the Gillette model of monetizing the consumables in favor of taking the profit up front. That might be a good thing for high usage customers, but for the average home user who might print ten to one hundred pages per month it's not very economical (unless they're like my wife who's favorite key combination is ctrl-P). I'm not sure where the cross over in terms of print volume is, but a $100US printer that I might use 3 sets of cartridges in it's lifetime is still cheaper than a $500US printer. Besides, at some point the non replaceable print heads are bound to get clogged up.

Well now that we're on printers I guess I can join back in....I just had to get ink for my Epson 845 and it's so outrageous that for the first time every I ordered re-manufactured cartridges via amazon -- a dual pack for less than the cost of the black cartridge alone from epson. Hope it doesn't constipate my nozzles.
