I'm on the website with windows 8 I hit 'Free" on the album I want select 'buy' then the window should offer up downloading the album then it asks confirm download, then it says it's preparing download and then wait wait wait but for me after then nothing that method only worked for me once out of the 3 albums I wanted

So for that one album I was able to get the full album as a zip for the others I had to download the tracks individually. To do that purchase the album then go to collection and select the album once you see the list of songs hover your mouse over the end of the song title, 3 dots will appear click it and the download track option appears repeat for all tracks.

I had the same experience with albums -- several times -- but I was able to download a song individually after I gave up on downloading the complete album at once. (Using Windows 7, here -- I didn't even want to try my Linux computer on a Microsoft site!)

I finally just installed their groove music app. makes downloads simple (and doesn't count against the download limit).

Yea I'm not sure this one by one was worth it (even free)...tried the app on the Lumia I bought last year but couldn't figure out how to get it off as my preferred file manager (es fine explorer) didn't seem to work properly on there

I'm on win 7 as well

Thanks, I have the 2015 of this (and one previous year, forget which one) and they're quite nice.

Glad to get the 2016 one already. (This downloads and makes a playlist for itself called Broadway League 2016, so it's the Broadway League's 2016 sampler.)

Last year when they did the freebies I used Windows 10 to get them. Granted it was the preview version still, but the music app was wonky as hell. There were a couple I never could get, as it kept erroring every single time I tried to buy them. I'm not remotely surprised to hear it's still messed up. I skipped it this year as I didn't want any of those albums.

You can download music from the Microsoft store using the Groove Music (formerly known as Xbox Music) app on Windows 8 and 10, but there are also apps for Windows Phone, Android, and iOS.

Google Play - Microsoft Groove

The Android app downloads the MP3 files to /sdcard/Music/XboxMusic. If you need a file manager, I like Total Commander (from the same guy that does the Windows shareware file manager). Check out the plugins to add things like access to LAN shares, etc.

Microsoft Phone Apps Store - Groove Music

On my Lumia 520 (WinPhone 8.1), the app is still called Xbox Music. It downloads the MP3 files to Music/Xbox Music/Purchases on my SD card (In Settings-Storage Sense, I have it set to store media files on the SD card.) If you need a file manager, there's a Total Commander for Windows Phone.

You can probably couple that with this offer: prepay for 3 months of Sling TV and get 50% off a Roku 3 or a free Roku streaming stick. If I can find a decent HD antenna so I can get my local channels, I would likely consider ditching cable and just getting Sling TV - I'd save loads of money.

I would do a trial of Sling TV first. Not a few people have trouble with the service, disconnecting/buffering. Yet others have no issues at all. I have trouble with it during any big event, such as the premier of this season's Walking Dead. When it works it's great, but best do a free trial at least for a week IMO.
I'm a cord cutter and use Mohu 50 for local stations, plus use Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime. There are lots of free channels on the Roku also.
