As a remark, I don't particularly see how just keeping a second copy (which you never use unless you want to print clean) slows down your workflow, but of course it might be a matter of taste. |

I don't catch the issue with the keeping of a second clean copy either? You may just keep it aside in the internal memory or the SD card of your reader, this does not matter. How does it slow down your workflow in any way?
Well, I live in Switzerland and am a lawyer. I am currently studying a lot (preparation to bar exams) and this device is fantastic! I have received it yesterday (it arrived in less than 48 hours from the US, see), and it will sure become a vital instrument to me. I love its sleek design, its light weight, the high page turn speed, the quality of the display, the smoothness of the writing (I do write fast but the lag is negligible) and also the fact that it is made in Japan. I own a Nook Glowlight Plus with 300ppi screen resolution, so the pixelisation on the Sony is noticeable from a close distance, but it really doesn't bother me at all. It is so much more convenient to read on such a A4 tablet than any other device, incl. iPad Pro or other similar black-lit screen. The only cons so far: 1) I failed to sync with box.com, even if I scrupulously followed the instructions given in a previous post, and this is a bit annoying; 2) The lanscape mode is... dumb; 3) The back is already full of fingerprints; 4) The surface is not 100% flat, just like it was initially rolled and then flatened when they installed the screen in the device - but this does not interfere with the writing (I love the feeling, altough I am a Wacom Cintiq 13HD user since years - there is no layer between the tip of the pen and the eink surface, so there is no pen "lag"). In short, it is the best and most useful purchase I have made this year, my eyes will say thank you to Sony (and my printer, too!). Last edited by Klerelo; 12-10-2015 at 11:29 AM. |

Actually the annotation is standard. Sony has purchased their Adobe PDF license thus all annotation/freestyle writing are PDF standard.
See this image: https://www.dropbox.com/s/emxxulsl3t...26-39.png?dl=0 On the print dialog in Adobe PDF, you can just select "Document Only"in the "Comments and Forms" section and the annotation (in blue) on the document will not be printed. Bad news for your intention to save $800 ![]() Quote:

It looks like you can now share your Dpt-s1 display through a computer while still being able to work with it. Have a look at the additional Sony Software:
http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/swu-do...os_group_id=27 That sounds awesome! But I want to know what's new on the Dpt-s1, too. :-) |

cut/copy/paste is one additional feature. they also added the ability to update the time through an ntp server. there's a new user guide for 1.5.5.0. download and look through it at your leisure.

Yey! Thanks pacolepain, great chrismas gift that is! As far a I recall, the 1.5 version had an additional line-width (extra bold). Looking most forward to that!

"Check for Updates" on the reader claims my 1.3.50 version of the firmware was the most recent version. The "PC Update" is a Windows "EXE" file which I can not run on my computer. Any suggestions what to do?
Edit: I got help from someone with a Windows computer and am enjoying the new firmware now ![]() Last edited by ManDay; 12-12-2015 at 01:09 PM. |

Perhaps Sony has some instructions somewhere on how to deal with that. For their T1 model, the windows EXE was a self-inflating zip file. You could unzip it yourself, copy one of the files inside to a specific folder on your reader, and then hold down some keys when rebooting. Maybe they did the DPT-S1 firmware a similar way.

![]() This is great news! Thanks so much. It would've only been a waste of $800 for me if it didn't fit into my workflow. I expect I'll have more questions after my DPTS1 arrives. Thanks to everyone who commented. Note: More than one person has expressed curiosity about my workflow - specifically why I can't just keep two copies of the pdfs I use. While It probably won't be of interest to most on this thread, I feel that I should at least be as courteous as everyone here who has been kind enough to answer my questions for me. The short answer is that I've a strong affinity for ruthless efficiency. The long answer is below. Currently a good part of my work is dealing with interlocutory matters - exciting stuff, I know </sarcasm>. Any legislation or case law I ever read gets annotated and added to an indexed database. When I need to prepare for an upcoming appearance, I go through the database, further annotating the pdfs if necessary and pulling the relevant pieces I need to build my case along my way. I may be pulling entire cases, or I may be pulling pages from specific pieces of legislation. Usually a combination of the two. I combine these pieces into a separate pdf which I use for the specific appearance. I can be pulling up to 15 sources from thousands of pages of material. The night before making my appearance I print multiple copies of the case specific pdf - one copy with annotations, for my reference, and the remaining clean copies for the Court and opposing counsel. I admit that if I simply kept fresh duplicates of all my pdfs it wouldn't take too much time to use the annotated case specific pdf as a guide to create a clean copy. Maybe an extra 10-15 minutes. I would also need to keep a separate database, but I this would be little more than a slight annoyance. The issue is that I do this all the time. I just don't feel that I can justify the convenience of a technology if it's going to cost me time in the long run. My new workflow will hopefully look similar, except for two distinct changes: I will only print the clean copies. My annotated copies will be on the DPTS1. (From what I've read, the DPTS1 is rock solid - I shouldn't have any reason to fear a glitch will make me lose my notes mid application) On a sunny day, research can be done under a tree in the park, instead of in my office staring at a monitor. (I really like this one!) |
