Amazon's categorization and search is really flaky

Wow, Amazon just keeps getting worse in how they categorize items and even worse still in what turns up when you do searches. I tried to limit the Deals to just Electronics, as seen by the attached screenshot. I'm not really sure why Amazon thinks women's clothing and jewelry belong in the Electronics category. Sometimes using their Search function turns up total garbage.

Yes! I never knew jewelry and scarves were electronics accessories. Ebay has a better search than Amazon.

I was very pleased to buy three items on Thanksgiving Day, but since then I have seen very little that appeals to me at any price.

My feeling about Cyber Monday/Week was similar to my reaction to Prime Day.

Anyone else feel the same way or just the opposite?

I hunt more for deals to post on my blog than to buy--but like you, I think I bought 3 things (the moto, some fabric...and an SD card. Offline, I bought a Yeti mic). After that? Wow. I've really struggled to find anything to post and had to resort to, "Well there's always Amazon giftcards" on the blog. I've trolled more than once through Amazon's daily deals, husband watches TigerDirect (I used to be an affiliate, but it wasn't worth the bother) and what is that other one. NewEgg. I watch ebay for ebay gift cards at a discount, but this year it was 5 dollars off a 100 dollar giftcard. No thanks. Too much money out for too little gain. Last year I picked up a 50 for 40, although that was after the holidays.

The Amazon 30 percent off a print book was kind of exciting for me, but it ended at the end of Nov...and that was the last marginally cool deal I've seen.

I'm done with my personal Christmas shopping (although Mom had two last minute requests--a book bag and armrest covers. Could she think of these in JULY??? for heaven's sake??)

I get all kinds of emails from Jockey, Target, MakingCosmetic, BrambleBerry, etc. Nothing of real value or interest.

Cyber Monday did nothing for me. Amazon's deals were ridiculous.

Amazon's deals remind me of when you were hunting for a last-minute present in the mall and every store you went in had awful slippers with fake wool pile, plastic gloves made to look like leather, and things like scarfs and ties filling the middle of the aisles. I suppose someone must buy that sort of thing because you see it every year, but it looks like the remnants of a very bad garage sale. In the case of Amazon's daily deals, they repeat the same supposed sale on jeans, a purse or two, SD cards and a bunch of plastic items that must be some kind of failed cargo from China from 1995. They have every piece of junk except the fruitcake that my family used to pass along from one family to the next every year for 20 years...And yes, we used to bet on whether it was the exact same fruitcake making the rounds or if someone actually purchased a new one now and then...

I used to look forward to the ebook deals but the only publisher that ever seemed to really get into the spirit of things was Open Road Media/Poisoned Pen Press. In the past they've discounted whole series but this year there were mostly just one or two books per series.

It probably doesn't help that I've already bought the whole of most of the series I want.

That's what I've been seeing too. My last book post on the FB bargain page sounded GREAT...it was book 3 in the series for 1.99. The first is 12 (which also sounded great, not the price, but the plot). But at that price, it kind of takes the wind out of your sails (sales? ) I know they've all been trying that technique this year, but it doesn't seem to sell a lot. As an associate, I don't see that it works. If it had been the first in the series on sale (or first and second) I think it would have moved 10 copies. Third only? Moved zip.

Yeah, this happened to me *several* times with the same package. It's because of a budget UPS service that partners with the local USPS. Any transfer point takes a loooong time to update, and neither side will take responsibility for up-to-date tracking info. For three different points, it seemed the package got lost somewhere for several days, but eventually turned up.

It kept saying "Estimated Delivery Dec. 4," even after that date had passed, and with no updates until Dec. 9, which is the same day the package arrived at my home.

The Amazon deals were mostly non-existent for anything I wanted or needed. I too got a few items, none of which were really good deals. I'm still miffed that they had thousands of faux deals wherein they simply jacked up the MSRP to an inflated level then pretended to give you a large percent off of that amount, when in fact they were selling those items for the same amount they and most other retailers have been selling them for months. That is pretty lame on Amazon's part. They are starting to make me feel about them the same way I feel about car sales people, lawyers, and snake oil distributors!

This seems to be the story with the daily so-called "lightning deals," too. The items recur regularly, they have ridiculously high MSRPs that I'm sure don't represent any actual sales and the reviews are from people who received the product for free in exchange for an "honest" review. Why do I think that if those "honest" reviews were less than glowing, the stream of free products would dry up?
