Well, it's back to 3.12.1 for me. I gave it a couple of days, but the weird lag when using two-fingers to adjust the backlight on the Aura started to drive me nuts. So it looks like I'll be waiting for the next update... again.

At this rate, I may stick with 3.12.1 indefinitely.

I didn't notice a lag on mine. It worked about the same when I was back with 3.12.1. The slight lag only happened wit the first two-finger swipe but as I adjust, the lag disappears.

Tested those fonts on my Aura. Didn't have any issues except for a significant amount of slowdown while changing the fonts. After the changes were implemented, I didn't have any issues. All my books are side loaded epubs btw.

Not able to reproduce it on my H2O, with some sideloaded fonts, patched, and fullscreen enabled and active.

As David said, I don't doubt some folks are seeing the issue. But it doesn't seem to be affecting Kobo's currently selling devices at all. Nor does it seem to be affecting all of the models that it has shown up on. It's probably something Kobo will need to correct, but it's not going to hurt them this holiday in terms of returned devices.

If it is a ram problem, Kobo needs to offer a lower quality Chinese typeface alongside the new one.

It's a front light. There is no back light on an eInk screen because the light cannot go through the screen.

I just gave Kobo Tsukushi Mincho font a try with ePub and I did not see the issue. I was able to use the advanced font control to adjust the weight and I was able to change the font to a different font. This is with my H2O patched.

I had an issue at the very first time I used the new firmware.. Unpatched it crashed and I could not change fonts. Rebooted and issue is gone. Patched now issue still has not resurfaced. What caused it in the first place I can't say. However the update was applied to a patched firmware.

Many Glo's are sold here, new and/or refurbished, maybe old party or leftovers but they are, from 49 refurbished till 89 new.
But,thats local .

For sure it isn't as simple as that.. offcourse not.. that would be to simple ( joke) and that makes it a "hell of a job" for testers.
As my wifes has maybe 80 books on their reader but I don't consider that as really a lot..
The problem is, to find the combination that leads to the problems.
Is it installation over installation and never return to factory resets ?? It will hard to find out what people have in common.
But the other way around, until the introduction of the new font,it didn't happen so you cant say: the new font kills the device, but it has someting to do with it.
By the way, I reply to you but that doesn't mean that I want an answer, it is just a common thought... I think when people do noticed it,it is better to say like Geoffr does: Tell what book, what did you do,how many books, how big database..
In my wifes case I was so stupid not to record this, it was a stephen king book, but she has 30+ of them on it and I already switched back to 3.17.3, I can't take the reader now because she has a 48+ shift in the hospital... and she won't like me to do it again I think

I've got the latest firmware on my H2O and full screen still works.

I manually updated and only use calibre cleaned Epubs. No patches or other mods except that full screen line.

Sorry if I missed this earlier in the thread: For the Kobo Touch Low Cost/N905C, I just press the home button and the "Critical Error" dialog goes away. No need to sign out or register. No apparent loss of bookmarks, etc.

One change I'll miss some: A short pull on the power button no longer sleeps the device.

Is this with a non-registered device? Or are you referring to something else?

It should. It is working on my both of my N905 Touch's. You haven't enabled the screenshots have you? If so, this takes over the sleep function of the switch.
