Sorry for the delay in answering but Real life (TM)....

Towelroot: you have to run it and wait a bit... Sometimes, no response at all so you must check if rooting happened using one of the "root checker" app in play market.

And yes, putting Update.zip in the root directory of the device ( or in the SD card ) is the recommended procedure for upgrading.
Regarding wiping: depending from what version of firmware you come from, you must or must not wipe ( on the contrary re-spect of common sense, computers are NOT deterministic machines)

New firmware version (1.7.4_rc1) for M96 and C67 on onyx-international forums. I think that t68 and i86 will be in next hours/minutos

Hello to everyone. This is my first post in this forum.

I recently moved my M96 to Booxtor's firmware, and installed the last update, 1.7.4 RC1 (update of 11/12/15). It looks great, and I love all the new features in Neo Reader and scribble, but I have seen some problems with text rendering, namely:

- In Android apps, any text mixing regular and bold fonts, is displayed either everything as bold, or regular. Strange enough, the text is actually displayed correctly when the app shows it (with, for example, the title in bold and the rest in regular font weight), but then it changes in a fraction of second, and format is lost. - Text is displayed in black, even when the background is black also, for example in notifications. So you are unable to read any android notification, because it is just a black rectangle.

Is anybody experiencing the same issues? Does anybody know where can I file a bug report for them?

I managed to root the latest kitkat for regular M96 using both Kingo Root and KingRoot. In both cases I used the PC installer.

SuperSu-Me pro didn't work for KingoRoot, but the free version removed Kingo and switched it to SuperSu. Problem is the non-free version is temporary.

Kingo installs things on its own, it seems, so I ultimately wiped the device and reflashed, then tried KingRoot via PC installer (the apk version would die at 50% and fail).

With KingRoot installed SuperSu-Me PRO ($6) was able to then strip KingRoot from the system and switch me over to SuperSu. Now I have root, xposed, and a bunch of system apps uninstalled, and a bunch of apps I couldn't install on 4.0 (ICS).

I can't understand translated chinese properly and the links are broken.

Why the company is using a cloud sharing service to distribute their latest firmware? This looks really shady to me.

I asked some stuff to e-reader.de and received very little feedback. I even asked if it was possible to get the big pen, but no reply and I got too busy. I received it some days ago by surprise.

But they have resellers worldwide. I don't get why they don't work more alonside their distributors.

Their Open Source strategy lacks stimulation too, they would make a very active community in a similar way to TI with Beagleboard

According to Onyx the 1.7.4_RC1 version published in Chinese forum is purposed for domestic market only. I am not sure if this really makes a difference or not. They say they are still working on international and Artatech versions of the devices.

Puedes volver de la 4.4 a la 4.0 con los enlaces que puedes encontrar para tu modelo en esta página (http://ereader-store.de/en/content/8-downloads), y después actualizar a esta versión.
