I was sceptical about fingerprint scanners, but much to my surprise I love that feature of my iPhone 6. It's 100% reliable and so much easier a way to unlock the device than typing in a passcode.

Mostly for reading, some web surfing and email, installed a few apps and watched a few movie trailers. It was probabaly 8-10 hours of screen time and I still had 25% charge left at the end of the night. Seems to be pretty much in line with Nexus 7.

It's brighter than my Nexus 7 2 outside and can be set darker in no light.

I did have a brief moment of "this thing is going back to the store" when the touch key backlights came on every time I touched the screen while reading in the dark. Out of the box it does not have a setting available to turn that feature off. Luckily there's an update available which includes the needed setting. Whew.

I picked up the Dell Venue 8 7840 (7000 series). Haven't put it thru the ringer yet, but I like the screen, actually, it is superb. The tablet is thin and I don't mind the angles. Nice, sleek and well built. Was able to get Lollipop right away. Big plus to Dell.

Haven't really tested the battery; doesn't appear to be overly speedy but I've only tested the wifi which I've had some trouble with lately.

A good tablet for ford porn, recipes, youtube, hulu, google newsstand and reading when I don't have my kindle handy.

Will not be using it to take pictures - so I have yet to test the 3D camera.

I bought the Tab S2 9.7 and absolutely love it. I upgraded from the nexus 9 which was disappointing in a lot of ways. They screen is the best to be found, and the performance is very snappy. It's light and batteryis phenomenal. The fingerprint scanner works well, much better than my note 4. All in all this is the best android tab I've used.

I've slapped the roocase on it and it is perfection

Ditto. I had a cheap temporary case on mine until the roocase origami became available for the S2.

Is there a particular site anybody would recommend for keeping up with new and forthcoming android tablets? The android sites I find are focused on phones, and the general tech sites aren't focused at all--I don't want to dig for the tablet info, and am not confident they have all the most current tablet rumors and info if that isn't their specific interest.

My main issue is I'm really interested in the zenpad z580ca, but it seems to have promptly disappeared from the face of the planet after release. The only info I've found is at B&H Photo, who estimate availability by November. By then I expect there will a number of other options in the pipeline, so I'm looking to keep on top of those (ie, 4:3, high resolution, pretty cheap ones). Or even just figure out what the heck the deal is with the zenpad.

I don't know about specific tablet sites at all but I am subscribed to

https://www.reddit.com/r/tablets/

On Reddit it's not all that busy as subs go though but it covers all tablets such as windows and IOS as well.

Being a bit clumsy, I get cuts of some sort on my finger at different times & have it covered with a band-aid. So, my perception is that fingerprint scanner doesn't do it for me; and don't think that the scanner will allow for calluses or scars when scanning.

Also, how reliable was the scanner when the "glass" has body oils or lots of dust?

So has anyone here spent any time with the Zenpad yet? I'm finally getting to the buy point, and I'm waffling between either another Nexus 7 or the Zenpad. On the one hand, I know the Nexus works great for what I use it for, but it's two year old tech, on the other hand, New, Shiny!

I have Asus zenfonepad 7 and it's cheaper and better than others brands of tablet. Which is good to buy if you want a affordable tab.

Right now, I'm wavering between the Nvidia Shield K1 and the Asus Zenpad. I like the idea of the Shield being close to stock Android, but I know the first version of this particular tablet was problematic, and the new one is quite new. The Zenpad is just so pretty and shiny, but I don't know about the Zen UI and all the bloatware. I know the Shield's specs are great, but great for a reader, not a gamer?

Thoughts?

For anyone considering the Zenpad S, Amazon currently has both models on sale for 30 bucks off.

http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-ZenPad-Z5...eywords=zenpad

Of course, they go on sale less than two weeks after I order one!

Anyone using the Lenovo 7-10?

My Nexus 7 has died, and I can't justify spending a lot of money to replace it.
