New Kobo types work well for my Glo.. But there is absolutely no reason to use an eastern font without italics.

It seems it is a hit or miss. Update should be cancelled. But Kobo is always doing this, there is a certain value in Kindle's KISS approach. Still, it is not for me.

I did register my Glo, but I've since deleted the Kobo Desktop and the wifi login from the computer. I only downloaded to the desktop, anyway.

I resented all the "new for you" and "recommended" emails - and all the other promotional junk that showed up on the desktop, too.

I read what I please. I mostly use independents if I can. I don't sync anything with anybody. I've sideloaded some from an Amazon account after running them through Calibre. I've seen some of interest reviewed by PBS.

Kobo seemed to have marketing problems with what I did buy. One book by a spam chaser, and 2 on the Curiosity Rover. Most of the newer books are "how to" make something - and those are usually not ebooks. I wish they were.

Since I was content enough with the way the first Nook wifi showed books, all the newer stuff doesn't interest me. If it hadn't finally died, I'd still be using it.

It looks like the Glo will never be updated. The only updates I want are hacks anyway and I don't feel like tackling them. (I don't want the main page, percent read, etc.)

I mostly read while eating and there is no trouble turning pages or keeping them flat in an ereader which is why I bought one.

It isn't the price of books, it's the usefulness. I bought the ebook "Astromical Wonders" even though I have the hard copy. The finder scope views were too good not to have on the tablet or phone.

I don't really open Awards but I noticed that when I do, my Aura freezes for several minutes. When I press the home button, I have to wait a couple of minutes before it responds. Negligible on my part but Kobo might need to be aware of this bug.

Other than that, I quite like the update so far.

Because at the time I had only seen YOUR post. Sigh.

Unlike many of you I run a totally UNPATCHED device. Those people having issues, what (if any) patches are in place?

My wife's is unpatched, all books are sideloaded, she never sync's or use the browser (i think she is even unaware that it has one, because it is only on the betasection and the tile is removed from the homescreen..) I did the update myself because of the refresh problems she had sometimes and "Sigh" it always seems my problem/fault when something is misbehaving...

( as in "Nick, this doesn't work, the tv's channels are mixed up again ,wifi doesn't work..., no your phone was connected at work to an internal ip that is in use here...can't you change that in here, yes but when it got's another at your work chances are that they are in use here.. there are 34 devices connected, wired or wireless..)

I'd really like to understand what people are doing to get the issues with the fonts.

I just changed font within an ePub to "Kobo Tsukushi Mincho"; I saw the book change to the new font, but have no issues when I return to the main home screen.

I haven't use 3.19.5613, but could it have anything to do with sideload fonts?
I once sideloaded 5 fonts (50 MB in total) on my H2O (with 3.17.x or something); it froze and rebooted when I was selecting fonts (because of sickle, I thought). I deleted 3 of them later to make H2O work again.
However my Glo (with 3.2.0) is always fine with those fonts.

So if the issue is about memory, maybe sideloading too many fonts could trigger the problem...?

I think the explanation (maybe there must be an extra i somewhere) is found in the patch topic or I get it somewhere else, I believe Davidfor and Geoffr mentioned it, just out of my mind because I can't search right now it could be a combination between a "difficult book" and the font.
Because the normal Glo has 256 mb internal "work memory" and the HD has 512 it can be that a book with a large chapter loads a lot in memory, combined with the large size of the font,it can be using more then the 256 mb and then it occurs.
Excuse me both members,if I remembered it wrong or if i make the wrong assumption, I am following so many topics and MY internal memory is being limited since I get older... (or older then 50 at least..)

That is what happens on my Glo with Kobo Tsukushi Mincho.

All I have to do is open an ePub, select Kobo Tsuhushi Mincho, try to turn a page. The result is that the book closes and is marked as finished. If I try to open it again I get a blank page, and the only way to get the book working again is to switch to another font, close the book without trying to turn the page, and reboot the Glo.

I've checked my database, it is very large (I haven't done a factory reset for a long time) but it passes an integrity check and I have no problems at all after rebooting as long as I don't select Kobo Tsukushi Minsho. This happens whether I have patched the firmware or not.

Edit: And I should add that it is really no problem at all now that I know what causes it, all I have to do is never select the Kobo Tsukushi Mincho font and everything is fine.

I also don't have a problem with Kobo Tsuhushi Mincho. I think we understand now that the size of the type (all fonts of all styles) is a factor. I tried some more huge eastern types, all have the same problems. But there must be more here.

Size of my database is 48.8MB, for example. How big is yours?

There must be a difference somewhere since I could use the 15MB type while you can't if size of the type has anything to do with this.

This is a pretty serious problem, there is almost no proper modern Chinese type smaller than 50MBs. If that Kobo Tsuhushi Mincho is only 15MBs, it must be either be missing some characters, or have them with very low quality, similar to Unifont.
