It's not hard to send email via a looping shell script: http://www.logix.cz/michal/devel/smtp-cli/
Or via ssmtp or postfix, both require configuration.
Or a multiplatform python version: http://www.blog.pythonlibrary.org/20...smtplib-email/


Although it is possible Google/other will notice and close down your account...

I'm not really worried about that--I'm not going to divulge his name, or the name of his book, so...what's the harm? I mean, legally? It can't be associated with him, so I can't see any liability. It's not like I'm talking about some big star, and something I'd say would make his identity obvious.

My own reaction is a bit squeamish--am I violating my professional and personal ethics in doing this? I never have before, except for that one image of a file we received, which I blurred. I'm probably being too...something. I'm not normally one to make fun of clients or prospective clients, but this guy? Holy s**t.

I would be more concerned about future harassment ... as you have your company name in your signature ... if a wingnut were truly obsessed with emailing you/staying in touch with you -- after he discovers his emails are blocked/not reaching you, it would be simple for him to Google your company name and find your posts here ....

Yes, of course, there's always that. Unlike lots of folks, I post--everywhere--under my own "handle" or name, as it were. I'm not hiding. And if he slogs on over here and sees his emails as the topic du jour, for all I know, it wouldn't be ME who would suffer--he'd probably join MR just so he could scold you all, too. It's a good point, Pooh.

I've already managed--through inadvertence, in a stupid attempt to help him--managed to sic him on someone else, whom he in turn "scolded" for not taking his job. Wouldn't want that to happen to youse guys.

No doubt it is. This house belonged to my grandmother. It was built in 1821. It is the oldest house surviving in that small town. It was going to be torn down in the 1950s but my grandmother bought it and had it moved to a lot behind her real estate office. As you can see, it survived Katrina and is still occupied.
