I finally got the upgrade too. You can enter your Adobe ID in settings now. I am still surprised it wasn't in the initial release at launch.

So can you actually download books from the library now? And of course, are they readable once they get to your nook?

I stopped in a store to look at one, today. In the store lighting, the device had a bluish cast. Very noticeable. The text layout was not bad, though some of the books had indents so small they were hardly there. The Georgia font looked nice. I didn't whip out my Kobo Mini for comparison, as the store was quite crowded. I don't think it has anything over Kobo. But it looks pretty good.

Yes, it has a bluish cast compared to my Kindles. However it's similar to previous versions of the Nooks.

I have quite a few different readers and when I put them side by side their screens are all a bit different. Not long ago I bought a couple of Paperwhites for a couple of my neighbors and even their screens were a bit different. It's kind of hard to know how much is individual device difference and how much is model or brand difference.
However it didn't take me long to figure out that none of this matters. When comparing some look bad and others look great. When reading they all seem perfect. I have all three models of the Paperwhite as well as a Voyage. I have 3 different model Kobos, 2 of which are lighted. And I have the new Nook Glowlight Plus. Side by side the best screen to my eyes is the Paperwhite 2. The worse is the Kobo Aura. But that's only when comparing side by side. When reading I can't decide which screen is better. They're all just fine. Barry |

book has been returned error
I've been following this thread for a while now to see if there was any new info about the update. Then a few days ago I received 45.1.14. Naturally I was pretty excited, even when I found out that you can't see the device in ADE on your PC.
However now I have a new problem. I read a couple of books and everything was going well until now. I checked out a new Epub book from my library and even thought ADE says it has 7 days remaining, my nook says that it has been returned. It is doing this with several books now including books that worked before. I have tried redownloading the book several times and restarting the nook. I have disconnected it and reconnected it to the PC. from past forums on the nook it appears that other nooks have had this or a similar problem but I can't figure out a fix. Has anyone else who received the update run into this yet? thanks for any info you have to offer. Tim |

One other person has mentioned the same problem. I saw that it has been an error message on past Nooks when I did a web search. One suggestion was to delete the book, redownload from the library and retransfer. Sounds like you tried that already. Another solution was not to use ADE 4 and use an earlier version. Those are the only two ideas that I read helped people. Good luck!

I read the following, not too clear info about the library book problem on the Nook forum: "I have just sideloaded a public library book to my glowlight plus. If I understand it correctly, you download the ebook just as described in the FAQ section of BN.com ereader support, and then you sideload a link to your ereader. The book is then sent to your ereader via that link. The link looks like the book title but has no content. It appears as though you are sideloading the ebook, just as you would if it were a purchased book from Kobo, but if you try to open the book right away you get an error message. I sort of "felt" my way through it, and it eventually worked. It took a few minutes for the content of the book to show up.". I think this means you have to copy the ASCM file (the download link from your library) to your Nook, and then download the book from there, but I am not sure. |

Well, I am not too sure Adobe *has* to support MTP.
When they created ADE no device used MTP... smartphones and tablets have apps capable of directly downloading ebooks from an ACSM. Perhaps it is B&N's job to fix what they broke, and provide the same thing. Perhaps it is B&N's job to stop using COTS android and actually write their own firmware to do what they need (custom embedded linux). Trying to shoehorn a multimedia OS onto a device meant for a single use has had the predictable outcome. A slow and exotic connection protocol meant for simultaneous access and merging a variable-size OS storage with user storage (MTP) has become mandatory in a situation where none of that is applicable. |

Looking at B&N's website and software do you really want them to write their own custom firmware ![]() |

I assume the problem lies with the Barnes & Nobles software; I called them to report the issue a few days ago. I also have the Nook Glowlight; I used ADE to load the same files on it, and the books were fine. Howard |

Incidentally I chatted with the good folks at B&N the same day that I received the update but before it came in. They told me that the update 45.1.4 which had been discussed about a month earlier on this forum didn't exist and they didn't know what I was talking about. That was the second time one of their reps had told me that no update had been released. Now I understand a little better why they wouldn't want to take credit for it. one more thing they put out there before it actually works. Tim |
