Katsunami's point 2 is about accessibility issues. I don't consider that nitpicking. It's why I can't use Win 10.

How do you remove Windows 10 IF its gone past the 30 Day trial? My son thought he Liked Windows 10 had it for couple months. Then he tried to do things, Don't know what. Windows 10 blocked what ever he was doing. Now he really hates it. He wants to go from Win 10 Back to 8.1.... THANKS

After the 30 days you're pretty much looking at a wipe and fresh install of Win 8 I think. That of course assumes you have a serial number for Win 8 to be able to reinstall it.

The fact that it was a smooth upgrade says absolutely nothing whatsoever (not even slightly) about anything other than the actual Windows 10 installer.

And an complaints seem to be more or less entirely focused on the user experience of actually using it.

"best yet" is a personal opinion, one which is meaningless when you don't actually say what makes you think it is so great.
Somehow I get the feeling you haven't been trying to exercise the Accessibility features. The feeling I get, is that you are dismissing a large segment of humanity as pointless nitpickers.

The manufactures web site for a few of our machines has a huge list of apps that must be manually uninstalled and other caveats about the Windows 10 upgrade, even for a new machine that was sold with an "Upgrade to Windows 10!" sticker on it."
That does not sit well with me.
I'm almost ready to risk trying 10 again on my laptop, but I really need to go out and get a back drive big enough for a complete system image first. Getting it back to a smooth working state after the last Windows 10 attempt was a hassle that I have no intention of repeating during the holidays!

Which apps? Maybe sharing that list would be helpful - could be that it is a great general purpose list to make W10 better?

All of the proprietary software I use in my business is running problem free under Win 10. And I did not have to manually install any of it. Even the software for my engraving machine is working flawlessly under Win 10.

If he did a backup before upgrading he can do a restore from there.

Otherwise he'll have to backup the data and do a total reinstall of whichever OS he prefers, using the original install disks.

It is kinda odd that he prefers 8.1 to 10 since the differences aren't all that big.
Most people who hate Win10 do it because they prefer Windows 7.

Or Linux.

This is the list to which I refered:

https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht103611

It makes me concerned about upgrading my wife's new Yoga 3.

I should mention that I have already upgraded my other Lenovo laptop, which is perhaps 3 or 4 years old, and it went with out issue and has been working fine for several months.

Went out and got a 1TB backup drive last night, so I will image my <1 year old Toshiba, which I've already upgraded and reverted once already, and see if the experience has improved any.

I cloned the drive (to a bigger one). then I put the old drive in the assigned box I keep for each computer I own (manuals, install disks are also there).
All I would have to do is retrieve documents that happened after the update.

So far, I just have a spare drive in the box

That does not sit well with me.
Wouldn't it be faster to just do a clean install and then install what you need?

I think it's reprehensible that Lenovo has completely abandoned supporting hardware that they were selling just a couple years ago. It definitely makes me think twice before I shop with them again.

Now they're all over the place. Using a small font size makes the small fonts too small, and using a larger font size so I can read the small fonts makes the large fonts huge.
Have you adjusted the advanced font controls? They are the same as in previous versions. You can find them at:

Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Display\Change only the Text size.

You can adjust menus, title bar, icon and other fonts individually. I personally set the DPI to a setting I like first, then make some tweaks to this area to make some fine adjustments. Doesn't work for every font, but it gets a lot of them.

Faster doing all the removals and reinstalls that Lenovo listed? Probably, but I object to either approach, since MS insists on pushing a "click here to upgrade now!" button in our faces.
Since my wife has very little installed on her new machine, and we can do a factory restore very easily (ask me how I know....) I intend to try the in place upgrade as MS is pushing, and see what happens.

By the way, I upgraded my Toshiba last night. I have not had a chance to really run it through it's paces, but I have seen some minor issues right off the bat: Restart time is decidedly slower than on 8.1, and I had the display manager software crash once already. I'm hoping that the video driver update I did from Device Manager, and the few extra reboots after reinstalling the Display Manager and other Win10 updates from Toshiba may address both of those. At least LibreOffice didn't crash on startup this time.
