Thanks, both. I was searching for a gift and the combination discount sold me. She'll like the tangerine, which looks gorgeous, and with the promo code upgrading to 16gb only costs an extra $15.

If you don't have the card, you can get a $30 ~ $80 Amz GC upon approval.

You snooze, you lose. Amazon stopped this combo from working. I'm glad I ordered this morning. I don't understand how they can stop it though. Neither deal says you can't use them together.

Edit: I read through the offer and it says Offer is limited to one promotion code for one qualifying device per eligible customer and account. I tried an HD 6 and it wouldn't let me get one. I never considered an Amazon Fire tablet before, lack of expandable storage being a deal breaker, but now I see one for $50 and I'm tempted: Fire, 7" Display, Wi-Fi, 8 GB - Includes Special Offers, Black. Good deal or not?

See earlier discussions in this thread --that is the Fire that was on sale for BF for 34. It may go to 34 again, who knows. But in the discussion, Tubemonkey mentioned some pros and cons. There's also a thread for it, but I don't think there's much in that thread yet (some people bought it on the deal).

Great, thanks; I found the earlier discussion, which I somehow overlooked before. I'm miffed that I missed the deal, and now the $50 price seems too high. (Yeah, I'm cheap.)

I've been waffling over tablets for a couple of years now ... maybe I should admit to myself that I really don't need one.

See this post on this blog before you make a decision. I was very hesitant about buying one of these Fires, even at $35. I kind of wish I'd gotten a generic tablet, such as described in the blog post, instead. *for a 10 year old who is not going to read on it*

If you want a Kindle tablet for reading, the Fire HD 6 for $59 (Special price today) is a MUCH better device than the cheapest $49 Fire.

If you want an 8" tablet, I like the looks of this Lenovo. (Currently $99). Although we have quite a few Fires in the house, I don't know that I'll get any more. I like open Android better.

Amazon is still selling the HD 7 it was $99 yesterday. I prefer it and say it's well worth the price.

I have to have the card slot. That's why I didn't pay much attention to the Fire deals before--I had ruled out an Amazon device because I wanted that extra space, and didn't realize that they'd added card slots on some of their tablets.

I think for now I'll just be content using my Moto E as a mini tablet and save the money!

They added card slots to all three of the newer models (5th generation), but used cheaper displays to keep costs down.
