Kobo sent me a 90% "we missed you" code. It's exactly the same "we missed you" code they sent to my other account a couple months ago, and I used it successfully then, so of course it won't work...on either account. Weird.

I actually did the survey, because I'm pretty much out of usable codes on my accounts, and 25% off on some inexpensive backlist title is better than nothing.

The code, it turns out, is 25OFFQ3, and I've managed to use it on three different accounts, so it appears to be one use per account, and not one-time use only. No idea when it expires.

So amazingly, the first part of this process actually did work. A couple of days after I opened the new account with my husband's new email address, he got an email saying "Don't forget... you've got $5!" in his Inbox. When I opened that email, there was a link saying "Shop Now" and when I clicked on that, it led to the Kobo site, with an open window saying:

The credit didn't show up in the normal "Payment Info" part of the account page, but when I hit the Continue button, then picked a book that was $7.99, put it in my cart, and then checked out, the $5 showed up, not as a coupon, but just as a credit. And, the best part was that I had put a non-couponable book in my cart, and since it seems to be a credit and not a coupon, it worked. So I got a new-ish Penguin book for $5 off.

Now I'll wait to see if I get the $5 credit actually coming back to my account - I'll update here if the second part works.

P.S. The way the email to his account was worded, I'm not sure whether I needed to open the new account first or not...but hey, somehow it worked.

A while back in this thread, it was talked about that they stopped allowing the use of BOTH the credit AND a coupon. And if you have a credit, it automatically applies. The auto-apply was the case even when they allowed a coupon to be applied as well (which did not last very long if I recall).

I do clean everything out frequently, its not that. Its been the same for ages, well over a year, and on different laptops. I actually dont remember a time it didnt happen. It only happens on Kobobooks, no other sites. I use Firefox and even with all addons disabled, it happens. I've just gotten used to it now, annoying as it is. Two suggestions:
Are you running the latest version of Firefox? If you're not that might fix whatever is causing the problem.

Have you tried a different browser? My personal preference is Chrome and I have no problem with Kobobooks *but* I do have a couple of sites I like that Chrome doesn't play well with so I use Firefox to view them. It's a minor annoyance but it's not that big a deal, for me, to have two browsers open. YMMV.

Thanks. I think I vaguely remember that discussion, but I can't recall the specifics. I presumed in my friend's case it was just because a code was already (sneakily) applied to get that credit so another to get discount wouldn't do.

I wondered if it's the same case now—and apparently it's a yes. NEWCUST5 is being automatically applied, and coupon doesn't work even if there are other [couponable] books included in that same transaction.

Clarifying for others that this is only for promo credits. You most definitely can use both your regular store credit and a coupon on your purchase.

Not for me. I use Chrome Canary. What a curious thing. Happens whether you're logged in or out? Like BookJunkieLI suggested, the latest Firefox (if yours is not) or a different browser might give you another result?
