Tis the season - for Christmas freebies! Audible is kicking things off for us this year, and doing it with a bit of a surprising combination - Christmas from The Great Courses. If you're interested in getting "A Brief History of Holiday Music" by Prof. Robert Greenburg, you can get it here.

The last thing she has the patience or the sanity to deal with? Her father's Thoroughbred racehorse farm. She gives its manager, Bo Porter, six months to close the place down. Bo knows he ought to resent the woman who's determined to take from him the only job he ever wanted. But instead of anger, Meg evokes within him a profound desire to protect. The more time he spends with her, the more he longs to overcome every obstacle that separates them and earn her love. Just when Meg realizes she can no longer deny the depth of her feelings for Bo, their fragile bond is broken by a force from Meg's past. Can their relationship--and their belief that God can work through every circumstance--survive? |

I was in my Audible account this evening to do a bit of clean-up. I was canceling one of the three-month memberships (after snagging the "Andy and Don: Making of a Friendship" about the Andy Griffith Show--'hope it's good).
I'd activated a live Chat to make sure of my account dates before adding a three-month gift certificate and I had a helpful CSR. He walked me through the process (easy peasy, as I'd thought it'd be, but I appreciated the hand-holding), then, as we closed the conversation, he wished me a good weekend and I turned around and hoped the same for him. He typed that he appreciated my thoughts and gave me an additional one credit. And it showed up immediately. My advice: Use the Chat feature occasionally and be nice. Maybe it'll pay off! (Although I have to say I had no idea of anything like that before this--I just tend to Chat friendly most of the time because it's a nice thing to do). |

Their families had been at loggerheads since the death of Gracie's mother years ago and as they grew up, they had to risk everything to be together. But it was worth it, because when they were together, nothing else mattered. Then, on their wedding day, Gracie discovered a secret that sent her running from Idle Point, leaving Noah with a broken heart to match her own. Now, eight years later, Gracie returns to Maine for her father's wedding. When she discovers Noah has come home to Idle Point to save the family business (and that he has a little daughter named Sophie) Gracie also discovers that nothing has changed. Will past mistakes destroy their love or will they finally find happiness together... at last? |

Modern Scholar, a part of the Recorded Books company, is a company that produces audiobooks of courses from first-rate college professors on various subjects. I have listened to quite a few of their offerings. Their audiobooks may not be quite as a good as The Great Courses, by The Teaching Company (but, in my opinion The Great Courses is the creme de la creme) but Modern Scholar is still very good.
ChristianAudio is one company that sells Modern Scholar audiobooks (it's a modest selection, but it may represent all that Modern Scholar makes in the religious genre). Audible sells a large number of them, too. I got curious--how do Audible's prices compare with ChristianAudio's on the Modern Scholar audiobooks that they both sell? Well, I was floored. Let me give you a few examples of audiobooks that they both handle: God Wills It! Understanding the Crusades. Audible--$42.95 ChristianAudio--$9.98. Heaven or Heresy: A History of the Inquisition. Audible--$42.95 ChristianAudio--$9.98. Faith and Reason: The Philosophy of Religion. Audible--$42.95 ChristianAudio--$9.98. The Dead Sea Scrolls: The Truth Behind the Mystique. Audible--$42.95 ChristianAudio--$9.98. The Bible as the Root of Western Literature. Audible--$42.95 ChristianAudio--$9.98 Well, you see the point. Yes, I'm aware that Audible has sales, and sometimes a few Modern Scholar audiobooks are among the bunches. And, I know that if you are a credit member of Audible, you get a couple of credits to use (and after spot-checking Audible's Modern Scholar titles, I see that each one is only 1 credit each). ChristianAudio also has a membership plan or two, themselves, starting at $14.95 a month. They include a couple of credits or so. And if you are a member, the price of additional audiobooks that you might buy is 25% off the regular price (so, for the ChristianAudio titles above, the prices would be $7.49 each, instead of $9.98 each). BTW--they have a 30-day free trial membership. Of course, the big limitation at ChristianAudio is that they only handle religious (but not all are "Christian") titles where Audible, of course, doesn't. BTW--keep in mind that right now ChristianAudio has "almost all" of their audio downloads on sale for $7.49 each. It looks like that includes the Modern Scholar titles. As soon as I finish this post, I'm going to head over to their site and grab a few titles that I saw and I liked. Here's a link that should give you all of the Modern Scholar titles available at ChristianAudio. I hope that the above information will help some Mobilereaders save some money on some audiobooks!
