PDF to EPUB conversion - dates erased
I'm having trouble converting a PDF with dates that are strangely formatted. Everything else about the PDF converts just fine, including other numbers such as footnotes, but the dates don't seem to be encoded as normal numbers: When I try to copy them into this post, they render like this: "In the mid-s", and in the converted EPUB they simply don't appear at all. I've attached a sample page of the PDF, and an EPUB I made with default settings, demonstrating the problem. I tried MOBI with the same results. Is there any way I can get these odd numbers to convert properly?
edit: oh well, realized too late this was not a useful sort of question and I can't delete my post. i handled it by just converting to a .doc file and doing find and replace on the odd characters for 0-9. sorry for the clutter. Last edited by marqa; 11-30-2015 at 04:05 AM. |

@marqa - Did you read this ==>> Read this before Posting PDF Questions There are some good tips in there.
Anyways, I converted your PDF to PRC (forerunner of MOBI) with Mobipocket Creator (Windows proggie) and converted that to EPUB with calibre, using stock configs in both. Results attached I convert upwards of 10 simple PDFs a day via this method. It's not One-Click but it's consistent at getting the job done, and the XHTML/CSS code is good enough for me. Afraid I only noticed the stickied PDF thread just after posting, though as mentioned in the edit I ended up fixing it by a bit of a fiddlier route anyway. thanks, though, I'll definitely try mobipocket creator next time I have a difficult PDF to convert... Definitely sounds easier than the method I used (convert to docx with wondershare, find and replace all the numerals in Word, then export as PDF, and convert the new PDF in Calibre!)

Or you can import the DOCX directly into the calibre ebook editor and get better preservation of styles. Going from PDF to DOCX to PDF to EPUB is like going to Galway from Dublin via Tokyo. BR |

Have you watched the these videos ==>> Video Tutorials - I found them invaluable -- watch a bit, practice it, watch the next bit, practice it... I also find it useful to have the PDF manual on hand - searching is 'better'. BR |
