				Welcome to the family!

So, I went with a Kobo Aura H2O; replacing my stolen Kindle Paperwhite 1.

Will be arriving next week. Got it on sale for about $10 off, and thought it wasn't worth the wait for Black Friday. I want them now, before the mail couriers are overloaded with Black Friday purchases, and I'll have to wait a week longer... Looking forward to use this device, double the resolution, and 0.8" larger. The Kindle was a tiny bit too small for my big hands, and a book always looked cramped for me. What did it for me, was the more yellowish tint the front light had, the SD card, the larger size, and the multi-file format compatibility. The waterproofing had absolutely zero effect on my purchase. If anything, it actually was a turnoff, due to the infra red touch screen sensors, that don't allow pinch zooming. Congratulations. Let us know how you like it. Now is a good time to look on ebay or Amazon for a sturdy case.

waterproofing didn't cause the infrared sensors, the Nook Glowlight Plus has the same waterproofing as the H2O and has a capacitive touch screen.

Yeah, I might have worded it a bit wrong,

I think they went with the IR touchscreen for waterproofing purposes; not sure if I'm right, though... |

So what do you think I should look into, to maximize my experience on this device?

I just heard something about Kepub, and I don't like it. Span was what I usually would remove from epub books, because they clutter, and fill an epub with unnecessary data! I feel there's nothing like cleaning up an HTML0 file to the bare minimum; and save potentially tens of kB, if not hundreds, or thousands of kB on text (depending on how large the book is, and how many chapters and illustrations it has). What else should I be looking for? Is there some software I can install on my H2O? Aside from reading books, what else can you do with the H2O? |

You could also use your H2O as a night lite.

I do use it as an emergency light, much better than a mobile phone - wider, no battery problem - for instance going downstairs and looking for the fuse box during a shortage in a house I was loaned.

The everything you didn't read, was written as an "Install Guide", with a few tips, to get started. I guess I should go over it again, I try to keep it up to date, but there have been a number of changes that could effect things. If you encounter any problems installing from the guide, please let me know, there. Luck; Ken Last edited by Ken Maltby; 11-28-2015 at 10:29 AM. |

I've tried reading up on some of this stuff, and find it a bit too risky.

isn't there a line of code I can modify or insert in the kobo config file that could change my screen flush rate? |

Metazoas Patches is imo the place tp start when you want to get the most out of your kobo, before trying one of the alternative reader software packages.

![]() Assuming you meant "flash" and that you really mean "refresh rate", you can set this on the "Reading settings" page of the settings. The available values are from 1 to 6. This can be set to something higher. See here for how. |
