Preparing to go to Amsterdam today with my sister.
We're first going to the Hermitage museum (our favourite), then have lunch somewhere and then go see a movie. |

I am sitting here rather than moving a ton and a half of crafting supplies to get to the thread.
Had to empty my craft closet recently. |

Yes, the exhibition was nice (Dutch Golden Age) but we were finished sooner than we thought. This meant that if we grabbed a quick lunch we would be able to see an earlier screening of the film in our favourite Amsterdam cinema, instead of the cinema outside of the inner city.
The new plan was to go shopping on the way to the trainstation after the film and have an early dinner somewhere along the way. After the film, though, we weren't hungry (too much snacks ![]() |

Just finished watching the first episode of The Man in the High Castle on Amazon Prime. I was a bit apprehensive, since some Philip K. Dick stories have not translated well to movies before, but this looks very good -- so far.

Waiting for the tickets to Russell Howards Amsterdam show to go on sale in 31 minutes.
Whilst waiting I also ordered the new Chromecast. It seems like a handy gadget. I already know it'll be used this winter; my father loves speedskating (the national Dutch wintersport) and in the past most, if not all all, competitions were broadcast live. In the last couple of years more and more competitions are broadcast online. The notebook we have in store is slow and gets laggy when you set the livestream to fullscreen on high resolution. The Chromecast seems to be the perfect solution to this problem. |

Yesterday I got the new Chromecast I'd ordered. I thought it would be a fun gadget. The set up was easy and I spend most of the night streaming YouTube, Netflix and other apps.
This morning I installed the Plex app on both my computer and my tablet. Tonight I'll test how that works (love the ability to make a playlist). The only downside is that it only works when my computer is on and not in sleep mode. So now I'm looking how much a simple NAS with an HDD of a couple of TB costs. It wasn't what I was looking for; it's portable but it won't work offline. But it's great fun and if I manage to get a NAS working I can disconnect my dedicated mediaplayer from my tv. |

For now I'm going to buy an extra external HDD for my media and switch off sleep mode when I want to stream. That way, when I go somewhere where there is no or slow internet I can hook up the external HDD to my small mediaplayer. |

I might get a more expensive NAS some time next year. I find it's usually better to spend more money and be future proof longer than spend less and need to replace it a lot earlier.
But first I need a new mobile phone (my Samsung Galaxy S3 is really slow), after that it's Christmas (always expensive) and mid January I'm going on vacation for a week (a rented cottage, but you tend to spend more than at home). |

Packing. Starting another period of traveling for work. In London all next week, followed by a week in Madrid, followed by a couple of nights in Paris the week after that. That should be all the traveling till Christmas, but a couple of weeks in Mexico City is in the plan for the end of January/first week of February.

Safe travels from me, as well. But, hopefully find some fun, too!
