Batteries can last a long time, when they're not used often.
If the user was an avid user of the device, the batteries would last no more than 3 years. But the fact of the matter is, as soon as battery capacity is halved, it loses interest in people's eyes, as if the used goods are no longer good.

I feel so relieved now that I've decided not to buy a "replacement" Kindle until the one I have breaks or dies.

This means that I don't need to spend anymore money on Kindles for a good long while. Not just now, but it also means that I won't even upgrade next year when they release a Voyage 2. Not if my current Voyage is still working perfectly well.

Don't get me wrong. I would love to have a Voyage with the super fast processor we heard about, and the new improved e-ink technology. And I would totally buy it if I was still using a Paperwhite. But right now I have an awesome, practically new Voyage, and I love everything about it. So why spend another $200 when I don't really need anything better?

This is actually the first time in Kindle history that I have no more features or improvements on my wish list.

Same thing with my iPhone. It's got a 1080 display, super fast processor, awesome camera, and my final wish came true with the 6 Plus's huge screen. And my Nexus tablet has everything I need, too.

So I'm all done upgrading just for the sake of upgrading. What a sense of freedom. From now on, I will only upgrade when absolutely necessary.

Now I can start putting that money toward my next wish...an 80 inch, 4k TV.

Concerning the voyager 2,
IF Amazon would sell them, it'll be for the holidays, and get rid of their current stock of ebooks on black Friday sales.

Usually Amazon would put a new device, especially a much expected device, 30 days before release on their website, for preorder.
I don't see they did that this time.

9k at Best buy last week.
Note, I would need a bigger house for that one.

Also, Amazon isn't the only place that sells kindles. Places like Best Buy tend to lag behind and will continue selling old models for months.

Heck you can still find kindle 2 on eBay if you want one for some reason.

This is a non-problem.

That's true. But I did use my game systems quite a lot. Several hours daily, actually. Sometimes I played so long that I had to plug in while playing.

But I see your point. I use my Kindle a LOT more than I used gaming systems. The battery is supposed to last 3 weeks, but I laughed when I heard that was based on 30 minutes of reading a day! I read 6 or 7 hrs a day sometimes. That's 12 to 15 times Amazon's standard.

I was actually relieved when I read that. It explains why I have to recharge my kindle every 3 days instead of every 3 weeks.

Well, that depends on whether the device is a novelty or a necessity. My iPod Touch (before I got an iPhone) was my whole life. I used that thing until the battery was lasting only 10 minutes before needing to be recharged. Near the end, I had to use it plugged in.

I would be the same way with my Kindle. But luckily I have a bunch of portable batteries, so I never have to be tethered to a wall.

You're right, but I'm funny when it comes to Kindles. I won't purchase from anyone but Amazon. It's because of their superb return policy. I'm really picky about the display.

Of all the kindles I have purchased, ALL but my Keyboard Kindle had some kind of screen issue. My K4 had fuzzy and faded e-ink and required 3 exchanges before getting a good one. And both Paperwhites (v1 & v2) had lighting issues and had to be exchanged several times as well. All exchanges arrived within 24 hrs and even though I had all 3 replacements in my possession, I wasn't charged for any of them. (we have 30 days to return them before they charge us)

Even the nicest BestBuy store won't tolerate repeated exchanges. And you definitely can't do that with eBay purchases.

The Paperwhite lighting was such a nightmare, that I was initially afraid to buy a Voyage. I actually got my Voyage in BestBuy, but it was totally unplanned. I really just went there to look at the display model, to decide if I even wanted one. Well they didn't have any display models, so the sales person agreed to open one up for me to look at.

I fell in love with it on the spot. So I asked if they would let me bring it into the conference room (that was next to us) and if we could turn off the overhead lights, so I could see the screen's lighting in a dark room. She did let me, and I could see that the lighting was perfect. So I bought it.

But it was just pure luck that it happened that way. I would never set out to buy a kindle from a store. Not unless they let me open and turn it on to inspect it, first.

I was the same. Having had a warning letter from Amazon before the Voyage was released about too many returns I was far too worried to consider buying one from them so at first I resisted then on impulse bought one from my local Argos and it was perfect

I'd love an updated Voyage (if one ever comes out) but again I can't see me chancing one from Amazon, it will be Argos or John Lewis.

I don't know what is correct. I don't have enough knowledge regarding batteries to determine that.

If a battery degenerates faster when you charge it often, you would be right.
If it just degenerates at the same rate, regardless if you charge it or not, then I'm right.

The one thing I do know from experience however, is that a battery will degenerate very fast and eventually become dead if you keep it charged all the time OR don't ever charge it (leave it lying around empty).

Me, I have my phone always plugged in, with a low power 800mA charger.
In the office, bedroom and car.
I basically only unplug it from the bedroom to the car, and car to the office.
This is a really, really bad idea. Being on continual charge is very bad for a battery.

So is this thread going to be shut down or do we officially have to wait until Dec 1st before this rumor proves to be false?
