So I just read on Facebook an author who's editor told her not to write romantic suspense as it was no longer popular. I have not been keeping up with this year's releases. Do you agree with her? I say I hope not it has always been my favorite genre.

I think it depends on the author, and whether she has already written in that genre, or wants to try something new.

Also editors probably base their opinions on random sales figures, not necessarily on what people want to read. |

I say it no longer being popular is BS. I'd really be surprised if it's not top three sections of the genre. It is however one of the more crowded areas of the genre as of late with some pretty popular self-pub authors on top of the indie & trad pubbed titles which may be what the editor was really talking about. Perhaps encouraging the author to try some of the less populated sub-genre's? Publishers are always trying to predict the next big area of any genre, such as the rise of NA's popularity, so that they've got titles in their catalog when it "takes off". Maybe RS isn't as popular at that particular publisher or something?

since romantic suspense is mentioned I wonder if someone has read the last book from the KGI series from Maya Banks that is in this genre, I love this series and every year I’m anxiously waiting for the new book, but this time I was so disappointed, I had to skip pages because I got bored, for me the author spent to many pages going on about the same issues.

I don’t remember the previous books being this way, has with a lot of series the first books for me where great, the last ones where good, I like that the books had a lot of action and seemed to be fast paced, always something going on that made you want to keep reading, I had trouble to stop reading them, but with this one I had trouble to read it. I don’t know if the this book really is so different from the ones before or if it is my taste that changed. I would like to know your thoughts about that book if you have read it. |

Do you guys want to do our 2015 favorites list this year? I was just thinking it might be nice to look through them in case there's any good book sales with Black Friday/Cyber Monday etc.

Also just this year's releases or favorites of what we've read this year? I've read more backlist than frontlist so far this year. |

I think we usually try to keep it around 10, and IIRC just whatever we read that we loved, no restrictions, right?

The only romances I have read this year are

Alienated by Melissa Landers Hungry Like the Wolf by Paige Tyler Cozies with romantic elements: Brandy Alexander Mysteries 1-4 by Shelly Fredman (This was an amazing find don't let the covers fool you.) I read mostly non fiction this year. I also started several romances and never finished them. |
