Also check out The Plutonium Blonde, The Blue-Haired Bombshell, The Doomsday Brunette, and The Flaxen Femme Fatale by John Zakour. They are fantastic. One part of the humor is the language evolution depicted in their dialog. For example, "damn" becomes "DOS" and "By God" becomes "By Gates." There are many more. |

I'll concur with the Stainless Steel Rat recommendation and The Right To Arm Bears (I have the two original paperbacks).
I'll add Callahan's Crosstime Saloon by Spider Robinson, Pandora's Legions by Christopher Anvil and The Nagasaki Vector by L. Neil Smith. That's my 20 milidollars, anyway. Ace |

The First Law trilogy by Joe Abercrombie has excellent dark humor.

I got a good chuckle out of Stanislaw Lem's "Memoirs Found in a Bathtub" and to a lesser degree "Cyberiad". I'm not much for fantasy but Vance's Eyes of the Overworld and the sequel were enjoyable. Although it must have been some 15 years since I've read them.

![]() And you're right plenty of good dark humor.....quote (Logan (a barbarian) and Quai (an apprentice wizard/seer) on the road together) : "Quai leaned down from his saddle, eyes wide with fear. ' Are they bandids?' 'You're the fucking seer.' hissed Logen through gritted teeth." ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Someone got there before me.
I highly recommend Space Captain Smith too. Guaranteed to raise a smile at the very least. |

I recommend Lois Bujold McMaster's Vorkisagan series. I started with Warrior's Apprentice but honestly the funniest book hands down in the series is A Civil Campaign. all the books have really funny moments and good humor mixed in with action/adventure military hijinks and great character development.

How about Fritz Leiber's "Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser" heroic fantasy books? I recall chuckling quite a bit over those.
