Hi
"Native system integration" On the Koreader wiki I can read (see "features list") that Koreader offers a "native system integration" for Kindle devices. It seems to be one step ahead than on Kobo devices. Trusting this information, ( and careless as usual ), I bought a Kindle PW3 and now I must wait for a very hypothetic jailbreak (which Kobo devices do not need). Can somebody explain what means a "native system integration"? Last edited by roger64; 11-08-2015 at 11:54 PM. |

@roger64: See the GH project: https://github.com/koreader/kpvbooklet
![]() Basically, you get to see your ePubs in the native UI, and clicking them launches KOReader automagically ![]() |

@NiLuJe
Thanks for your reply. I agree that this is something Kobo owners can't do and they have to use KSM to launch Koreader. However, I can't help thinking (and bothering) that the alluded "automagics" only takes place for jailbroken devices. This is quite significant. Though on a different technical level, this is also a permanent, major and distinct feature that's worth signalling. I think it would be more informative to change in the features list of the wiki at the line "native system integration", the sentence: "supported on Kindle devices" by the following one "supported on Kindle already jailbroken* devices". * and only as long as the jailbreak keeps working following changes of firmware versions Last edited by roger64; 11-09-2015 at 10:27 PM. |

You can only run KOReader on jailbroken Kindle devices, period. Native integration is irrelevant here

So the word Native is just irrelevant not only on the wiki but also in the title of this venerable thread.
OK. I understand now. ![]() |

@roger64: The [Native] in the thread title comes from our set of tags used on the forum to keep things tidy, which simply means that's it a native application in the sense that it's not tied to any specific device

![]() I believe you. The incoming centralized KOReader subforum with its Kindle, Kobo, Android, Pocketbook, etc. threads will deserve to be called "native" (with this very peculiar meaning you give it). "Native" or "ecumenical"? |

Newly JB-en PW1 5.3.3, Kual installed and a bunch of extensions which seem to work ok. Koreader installed but running any menu item returns to homescreen and/or a reset.
Also, some of the Kual extensions (including Koreader) come with an extensions directory and instructions to install to root which already has the extensions directory. Last edited by weroflu; 11-14-2015 at 02:14 AM. |

knc1 - ok I got hung up because I was just copying the files after unarchiving, not actually following the directions.
Niluje- executing any menu item in Koreader. I thought maybe maybe it was a memory problem so deleted my 500M library but it made no difference. |

Your not the only one, there always seems to be a lot of that going around.
![]() We (the people who author this stuff) have always thought that people who own an electronic book reading device would read. But it turns out they aren't any different than everybody else in the world (directions are something to be read **after** things go wrong). Last edited by knc1; 11-14-2015 at 09:53 AM. |

Knc1: Thank you. It works now.
But this is a little ambiguous: "copy the ZIP's contents (so: extract it!) to the root folder (in drive mode, it's /mnt/us internally) of your Kindle" I understood it to mean copy the extracted contents... Next question: What is the best way to read powerpoint documents on a PW1? |

That is a question we haven't heard here before. - - - - Being a first, I have to do a bit of guessing. . . . Reading powerpoint documents is usually something that the browser does. Maybe one of our alternative browsers can do that, I am not sure. Perhaps one of the people using either our skipstone or midora (or other) browsers can say if they support powerpoint. = = = = Edit: One list offered by Google: http://alternativeto.net/software/mi...platform=linux I don't recognize any of those having been built for the Kindle. Although we haven't built LaTex for the Kindles, it is probably possible, so maybe this one could be made to work: http://www.ctan.org/pkg/powerdot/ (Probably, getting the debian build of LaTex to run on the Kindle would be easier than building it.) Keep in mind - You aren't going to get Audio and/or Video inserts to work on the pw-1 - lack of required hardware. Last edited by knc1; 11-14-2015 at 10:24 AM. |

@weroflu: Check KOReader's crash log (in koreader/crash.log).
