I've had 3 Kobos and they've all worked fine. Maybe you're getting imitation Kobos in Hungary?

Highlighting works just fine for me in epub (Aura HD, 3.18.0) - with one exception: It's impossible to highlight the last word of the first paragraph on a page. Not a big thing, but sometimes it gets on my nerves a bit.

Please send me a pm beforehand, so I can be in the goodwill shop when you drop the four Kobos there. They're so bad devices they shouldn't get into wrong hands!

One thing slightly puzzles me. Given that all Kobo devices run essentially the same firmware, and it's the firmware rather than the hardware that you have issues with, why on Earth would you buy four of them? If you disliked the firmware of the first device, would it not have been more logical to have switched to a different type of device at that point?

It's more bizarre than that. It's the last word of the paragraph if it continues from the previous screen. And if the paragraph finishes with two punctuation characters, the word can be selected, but not that last character. And yes, not a big problem, but one I can't "unsee" once I discovered it.

And something I just noticed, if I start a selection earlier in the paragraph to include that last word, the highlight disappears when I lift my finger, but the menu pops up. I can save the highlight and see it in the annotations list, but it isn't highlighted in the text. If I change the font size so that the paragraph doesn't go over the screen, the highlight appears.

I wonder what's going on? I just found a paragraph that continues from the previous page, and highlighted the last word of the paragraph without a porblem. I also highlighted the last six words of the paragraph, including the two final punctuation characters, which were ." This is in a sideloaded epub.

What I described has been consistent for me. Any chance there where any other tags in the text? It might be to the last tag, rather than the start of a paragraph and hence italics or something else might affect the behaviour. If I can find a book that will test that theory.

I've definitely experienced some of the firmware gripes cited here in various versions at various times, but the Kobos work pretty well, most of the time and I simply WILL NOT do business with Amazon.

There are easy work arounds for most issues -- if I have trouble hi-lighting something, I can just bookmark the page instead, and if you have trouble with the dictionary, most of us have a smartphone in our pocket.

Making that header disappear after a search necessitates tapping the screen twice -- The Horror!

I've had mine for over 2 years now and it's still great, never had a problem.
I just read though (I mean, I don't highlight, take notes or use the dictionary much) and it's still on a very early firmware because I never have the wifi on, I don't care that it's not updated because it works well as it is.

Have you looked at options like Twitter for reaching Kobo?

Also if you've bothered following this forum on a regular basis you should have clued into the fact that the Kobo product manager is a member here, and when people reach out to him he can give some excellent advice.
