Was that the US (Random House) or the UK (Hachette) edition?

I have these on my wishlist, the US editions work out cheaper but I have a feeling the UK editions might be better quality. There is also a UK omnibus edition that is reasonable value.

I have the US editions. I just checked the first 10 pages of the first 2 books and didn't notice any missing punctuation. I read the whole series on ebook and didn't encounter enough issues to really notice ... and I'm really picky.

And mine's the UK edition, and that's fine, too.

The eBook I read of the first book was not full of errors.

The first book was OK, but not even close to superb. The second book was a sludgefest. I tried to get through it, but I just could not. It was a mess and the dolphins just so unlikable.

My opinion is that it's superb, and yours is that it isn't. That's OK. You're allowed to be wrong.

Everyone is allowed to be wrong. Just don't feel too bad that you are wrong in this case.

"Startide Rising" won both the Hugo and Nebula, which puts it in very distinguished company. I would suggest, therefore, that your opinion of it is not the majority one.

I much preferred the second book, myself. Although I read it first, which might have some bearing.

A lot of award winning books aren't all that good. So to me, the awards don't mean a lot. Look what happened to the recent Hugo awards. They got turned into a clown show.

Yeah, I'm with you on this Harry. Startide Rising was a great read.

I liked Sundiver, loved Startide Rising. I haven't read the third book since high school though, and don't have any distinct memories of it. I didn't enjoy the second trilogy nearly as much.

Speaking of which, the reviews of the Uplift War on Amazon mention bad formatting/spelling in the ebook version, but they're several years old. Can anyone vouch for the current "printing"?

Free Today on Amazon UK - Nightwalker (Stormwalker Book 4) by Allyson James

'Stormwalker Janet Begay, proprietor of the Crossroads Hotel, a place where the paranormal stop for a safe night’s rest, discovers the hard way that a slayer is targeting Ansel, a Nightwalker who’s become a more-or-less permanent resident.
When Janet and her boyfriend Mick intervene to save Ansel’s un-life, they find that the attack is the beginning of an oncoming storm. Janet has her hands full already with the upcoming marriage of her father, her crazy half-sister, the return of a woman who claims to be Coyote’s wife, a couple dragons on her back, and her worry about Mick, who’s behaving strangely again.
But it seems that everyone is after Ansel, who fears he killed the woman he loves in a Nightwalker frenzy. Janet must choose between protecting Ansel or facing the most powerful magical beings in the world, who are willing to destroy Janet, Mick, her hotel, and everyone she cares about to get to Ansel and his secrets.'

I read the entire series late last year as U.S. ebooks. The books were all fine. There may have been a few OCR errors here and there, but it wasn't a "typo on each page" situation in the least.

I have the Uplift Omnibus, published by UK Hachette Digital, copyright 2012. Purchased from Kobo at the end of 2013.

It's missing the full stop (period) at the end of sentences. It's happening frequently enough that I stopped reading it when this happened yet again at the beginning of the second chapter. My tolerance for repeating errors of this nature in purchased books is getting very low.

And I just checked, Kobo hasn't updated the edition, so it still has these errors.
