The size of the new iPad will also be great for reading the Belgian-French Comics... Reading US-style Comics or Mangas on regular iPad is good. But the regular iPad is a bit too small for the Belgian-French comics according to my tastes... Anyway, I have an iPad 1 to replace... ;-) Yes, I am still on the original one ! :-D |

I think you will notice quite a difference between the resolution on an original iPad and the newer ones.

My wife and daughters all have more recent one than mine... If the price is right (and the comparisons with the Surface Pro 4 good...) then I will regain the lead ! |

If I want to go out with it, I have a little 4G/wifi router that goes in my pocket. In any case, like many others, I've decided not to go for it. My Air2 is perfectly competent for the tasks I want to do, including editing photographs, I wanted (but don't need) a larger screen. So I'm sticking with my lightweight Air2/128GB/wifi only, and Logitech Type+ Keyboard and a generic stylus I rarely use. I *would* buy the Pencil if it were compatible with the Air2. I'm also intending to sell my iPad Mini (first gen) to which end I am doing a full restore as I speak, its been very laggy on iOS9x. I just don't use it much excpt to quickly look up things whilst watching TV, and I can do that on the 5S just as easily. So... nah, guess the Pro is not for me, after all.

Have you tried using the "personal hotspot" on your iPhone with your iPad? I find that it works very well indeed.

Yes, but I dont have much data available from my phone - I'm on a very basic prepaid (PAYG). I have binges on using mobile data, so what I have is the mobile router with 16GB that will last two years. I probably won't use all of it.

Now that I am retired I am home most of the time we pay for 3 gigs of shared data a month and we get roll over from on month to the next. We seem to always have almost but not quit 6 gigs of data all the time. So when we travel this weekend I will be using my iphone as the hotspot.

As far as the mobile router goes, I've been using one since the year dot, really... when I was working I needed mobile data and my 3GS could only be a hotspot when jailbroken and using an app called MiFi... worked well, but the phone's battery died PDQ... so I got a little router thing and never looked back. The other advantage is that you can use it with a number of devices, so not needing multiple sim cards. two will do for everything my phone overheats when I use it as a hotspot, which I did, when between data accounts.

I don't like using the iPhone as a hotspot, I'm worried about the phone's battery (although it's new enough that it's not really a problem now), and it doesn't seem very reliable. I have a separate hotspot that I keep on all the time when I'm at work and I use it only occasionally, but I like the comfort of having it. I used to have a separate plan for this but now I can have a second SIM card on my phone's plan, which will be cheaper and still enough for my needs.

At home I just use my normal home WiFi network, of course, so I only need the phone's hotspot when I'm away from home somewhere, so it's only something I use infrequently. I've found it to be completely reliable, though, on the occasions that I've used it.

The reviews have started popping in today. So far, positive, just a lot of the same concerns about it not being a real laptop replacement.

I have one. Annoyingly, the pencil is not available yet. Overall first impressions are that it's really big and really fast. The weight is fine, and it feels lighter than it looks like it should. It's really annoying that they didn't increase the number of icons that you can put on the display. And, of course, unsurprisingly, scaled apps look like crap. Hopefully Reeder and Shubook update soon. I don't have much else to say yet. The nice thing is that the combination of the 12" MacBook and the iPad Pro weighs about the same and is around the same size as a 13" MacBook Pro. |
