Nextbook Ares 8

Have a new Nextbook Ares 8 with android 5.0 system, using the NOOK app, that calibre recognizes and displays installed books. Calibre allows me to remove (delete) books from the device but when I try to add a book, with calibre, it appears to be transferring but only the title and book info get there - not the book itself. When switching ro device view in calibre the book appears to be there. In order to get a book on the device I have to open the file structure on the Nextbook, open the NOOK folder, then the books folder and drag the epub there. If I have previously used calibre to add a book, it does appear as a file with zero bytes. . Any ideas??? - TIA dande
