Last Christmas, Staples was selling the Kindle 7 for $29 after $20 off and $30 online rebate.

So I'll settle for a less heroic deal.

Anyway, as to who introduces readers in november:
Amazon has introduced readers in November before. Tablets and streamers, too.
Original Kindle being one such.

So it's not out of the question that a new Voyage might still arrive.
Maybe even a new Basic Kindle.
But a new PW?
Seriously doubt that one.

Hmmm, I've never gotten a colorful reply from Amazon like the one shown in the above post. I've gotten a lot emails from them but nothing that looked like that. Always boring black text on white background like almost all other emails. It seems way to contrived to me. As others and myself have already mentioned, the window of opportunity to release anything before Black Friday/Monday is quickly slipping away. The longer they wait the less time they will have to get people fired up (no pun intended) to buy it on those sales days. But Amazon is not always logical in the business practices. Either way, I doubt a V2 will have any wow factor. It would most likely be a very minor update to the V1.

Kindles are already on sale (or were anyway). Maybe they want to clear stock in the sales, then announce the new readers.

Maybe, but Amazon has deals on items all the time. I wouldn't count on this being a closeout sale, especially since it includes the newest PW. Probably just a typical sale.

the weird colors look like the result of the person running a screen filter program to change the temperature of their display (mainly to reduce blue). I'm using one right now on my tablet.

If anything, this actually makes the screen shot more convincing, not less. After all, if somebody is going to fake a screen shot, why use such an unconventional palette.

The screen shot looks phony to me. As Agent Mulder's poster proclaims, 'I Want To Believe', but it ain't happening for me yet.

Note the original title of this discussion, including the words 'end of September'. It's now November. There is only one source for this rumor (and the screenshot for that matter). No FCC filings, etc.

As for the (more or less unprecedented) sale on Voyage, it seems to me it is just a sale. To the extent that it depletes stock on hand, it probably hastens the arrival of Voyage 2, but I am guessing there are yet several months to wait for it. Tight control of inventory is the only way to avoid losing money when profit margins are low, and sales are not strong. Amazon isn't going to ship a new device (or even put it into production) if they have tons of the old one sitting around, short of some competitive threat (of which there are none).

But I may just be talking myself into picking up a Voyage at the sale price.

It is a really good price. If you buy one I think you have 30 days in which to return it. So if they release a V2 in that time you can send the V1 back. I really doubt a V2 will be released this year, but you never know.
