I believe that is only the picture. The map in the book has a legend (some landmarks labeled), and so does the big map. IIRC there is very small writing - just needs a hires image of the map.

My hardback copy has two (facing) pages of the maps, as does my Kindle ebook. The two pages in the ebook are low resolution JPG files, thus the information they supply seems quite limited.

Is there a difference though in the amount of writing Kindle vs hardback? I am not saying it is a great map, but it is slightly more than no legend at all.

Nope, they are the same. The JPGs are quite small at 100 K each and 500x700 pixels so they don't resize to a larger size very well, thus they lack detail (they get blurry).

I just received The Aeronaut's Windlass from my library, I have a couple hundred more pages to go in The Forever War by Joe Haldeman but I may end up taking a short break if I find what seems like a good stopping point. This surprised me since I was #3 in line this morning. I wonder if the others who were in line got tired of waiting and just bought it.
