This is why (syncing... for me, bookmarks, or rather last place read) I'm going to switch to iBooks. For my uses, it has the most reliable sync, and it doesnt care if I am reading books I have opened in rather than bought from the iBooks store.

My plan is to get myself a 6sPlus, I'll be going without an iPad Pro for a couple of years and will have to continue doing my photography on my main computer with a big screen. I checked out the PLus in an Apple store a couple of days ago, and I am sold on the size now, where I was not, last year. The Pro will be too big for me, for reading, but would be excellent for many other things. However, I can't have both at once, and thats that.

Bad syncing is the reason I abandoned iBooks. I think it works fine if you're online all the time, but if you read while offline it doesn't. In the end, I abandoned syncing altogether, because it doesn't work in Marvin either (although Marvin only sends me back a few pages, not to the beginning of the book as iBooks does). I just have different books going on different devices.

Ahhh I see. Yeah, my phone is always connected one way or the other, and my ipads are rarely out of the house and therefore never off my wifi. Usually, if I take them anywhere, its not to be reading. My phone is and always will be my main reading app. I sometimes read on the Air2, and now we have split screen and friends send imessages, I don't actually have to leave the screen to answer. Book in half the screen and messages in the other half.

I generally alternate between reading with the kindle app and marvin. The Kindle app has the best syncing. It's always been spot on. Marvin seems to have issues syncing between devices with different page sizes.

Just noticed that Procreate and Photoshop for iPad have been updated and optimized for iPad pro and the Apple pencil.

Yep. iPad Pro orders start on the 11th so updated apps are starting to pop up.

Here in Australia, they havent even deigned to give us any pricing. the dollar exchange rate is so shocking at the moment, I'm expecting the 128GB model to be $1500 AUD or thereabouts. and then theres a keyboard and pencil on top of that. Guess I'll be waiting a while.

In devices that support pen and digit, interfaces are separated, and accessed by different code. However, normal rule is convert pen touch into digit touch and into mouse touch if program does not use pen API or Digit API.

No mortar can confirm that a pen touch will be a finger touch until iPad Pro will be released.

This mortal dares to confirm exactly that.

The API docs are public now that 9.1 is out of beta, as well as code samples for working with the stylus. All the stylus input data is on the same API as finger touches are: UITouch. All Apple did was add properties to it which have the extra data coming from the stylus, and a flag to tell you which type of touch it is.

So if you do nothing, all your code will treat these touches from the stylus like a finger touch. But if you want to use pressure/tilt, you need to detect that it is a stylus touch and then pull the extra information from it.

Can't see any price on the French site either, or even an availability date (it just says "in November").

Almost certainly. The WiFi-only 128GB iPad Air 2 is £559 in the UK, which is A$1200, so I'd expect the iPad Pro to be at least A$1500. Wouldn't surprise me if it were more like A$1800.

So that's £701. Add 20% VAT and you get £841, which is A$1806, as I said before .

We currently only have a 10% GST (VAT) so maybe not. Either way its beyond my meagre means, on an age pension. Saving for months. Or simply making do with my Air 2 (128GB). Havent even got the new phone. Still on my 5S and will be for some time yet.

10% GST would take the price to about A$1660.

I'm very happy with my iPad Air 2. I've really no need for a larger screen. I can display A4-size PDFs comfortably by cropping the margins and read them with no need to zoom in, which is all I need. Back in June I upgraded from my 5-year-old iPhone 4 to an iPhone 6, and am happy with that, too.
