Finally finished from the library Changeless by Gail Carriger. This one wasn't as fun as the author's first. There weren't any interesting characters except Madame LeFoux. It seemed to take 250 dull-ish pages until we reached the climax which felt very clichéd. Although, there were a couple of fun and exciting scenes this book in the end fell flat for me. In addition, it ends on a soft cliffhanger. Rated D+ [2 stars].
Next is a book I bought during the last Kopocalypse in April, The Constantine Affliction by T. Aaron Payton. |

I just finished one book this afternoon: Constitution by Nick Webb. It was a pretty good science fiction book, supposedly first in a trilogy. Still reading Kris Longknife: Unrelenting by Mike Shepherd and Sonoma Rose by Jennifer Chiaverini. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Another good book and despite being written in the early 70s it isn't particularly dated. Hemlock isn't the nicest guy in the world but he's taking baby steps towards being a bit nicer. Next up will be Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett as I work my way through the Discworld. |

Based on this reco, I got and read Beyond Words and it was not 'really, really good'. It was really really excellent! One of the most riviting science books I've read. Highly recommend it.

Well I accidentally signed up for the Kindle unlimited Library (watching TV and looking at the kindle books on my IPAD). I might keep it for a a month or two (initial 30 day trial is free). I tried a couple of books and I couldn't get into them so returned them and moved on.
I read the Latest Mango Bob story which was OK and undemanding (Mango Glades by Bill Myers). Very easy to read but nothing much happens. I then tried Dark Waters: Elemental, Book 1 by Rain Oxford and I was glad I did, by the time I got halfway through I added books 2 and 3 to my list. I am currently a third of the way through book 3. I might move onto to a British library crime classic for my next read, The Santa Klaus Murder by Mavis Doriel Hay which is also part of the kindle unlimited library. |

I usually read mysteries and just finished "And Justice There is None" (Deborah Crombie), the 8th book in the Duncan Kincaid/Gemma James series -- Inspectors in London. It was the first one I've read by her, but not the last. I really enjoyed the writing and the characters. I think I'll start at the beginning. (there are a lot of them, yea!)
Lately I've been reading some SciFi and have devoured "The Chronicles of St Marys" series by Jodi Taylor. I think I read all 6 of the books and the 3 short stores in like two weeks!! (write faster Jodi!!) Great historical time travel adventures, wonderful 'cast of characters' and great writing! Love them!! I.m currently reading "Midnight Riot" by Ben Aaronovitch. It's this month's selection for my book club. It's okay. Not a 'can't put down' book, but slowly getting through it. It's about magic in London and a Police "Wizard" and "Wizard in training" investigating crimes involving magic and other manifestations of the uncanny- brutal and bizarre murders, a world where gods and goddesses mingle with mortals and a long-dead evil is making a comeback on a rising tide of magic. (from the Amazon description, not my own... ;-) Great reviews on Amazon, but not grabbing me like The Chronicles of St Marys books. It drags a little too much for me, and I don't really care for the characters. Highly recommend the Chronicles books and Deborah Crombie though! When I finish my book club selection, it's back to mysteries for me!! |

I just finished up the final book of Linda Nagata's "Red" trilogy (First Light, The Trials, and Going Dark). It's a near-future political/military thriller with some interesting (and at times harrowingly believable) speculative modern-warfare advancements in technology. Nice balance of action and character development/introspection.
Now starting Claire North (aka Catherine Webb, aka Kate Griffin)'s Gamehouse series of novellas. |
